My parents (or whoever) regularly wrote this kind of information on the back of their photographs. When I was growing up they had two or three photo albums filled with mostly black-and-white photos that somewhat catalogued their lives, and I enjoyed looking at those photos over and over and over. Unfortunately, my sister got her irresponsible hands on those photo albums and I have no idea what happened to them. On June 25, 1913 Civil War veterans began arriving in Gettysburg, PA. for the "Great Reunion" marking the 50th anniversary of the battle. The event officially lasted from June 29 - July 4 and over 50,000 old soldiers attended. Here former enemies clasp hands over a stone wall on Cemetery Ridge.

From my collection: 1925 President Coolidge takes off his silk topper to don the 10 gallon hat presented to him by the American Legion Post of Texas at the Omaha convention. Photo dated 10-10-25

AND
This photo from a 1927 Fourth of July celebration at Rapid City SD turned up in the personal papers of Coolidge's personal secretary Edward Clark in 1962 to be reproduced here...in this news-wire photo dated October 12, 1962. In the foreground in her own remarkable hat is his wife (Coolidge).
