Mary Erwin Bush Smith on her wedding day to Capt. William T. "Bloody Bill" Anderson, Sherman, TX March 2, 1864. Check out her hat.

Mary Erwin Anderson was pregnant with their child soon after, when Anderson returned to Missouri for the Spring campaign. Capt. Anderson was killed that fall in Richmond, on Oct 27, 1864. Their child would die in infancy.

Jim Anderson would married his brother's widow, Mary Erwin Anderson on Oct 21, 1868. Their daughter Jimmie Maude Anderson was born August 21, 1870; Jim Anderson was killed in late Nov 1869. Jimmie Maude Anderson lived in her mother's home that was contracted to be built by Capt. William Anderson her entire life until moving to a nursing home shortly before her death in 1966 at age 96.

Mary Erwin Anderson, just 24 yrs of age would be married one last time to Burrell P. Smith Jr., age 50 & son of the mayor in 1872 & gave birth to a daughter they named Bush Smith. Mary Erwin Anderson Smith died ~1918.

William Francis Hadley (alias Joseph Anderson, Joseph Hadley) shot dead by firing squad as ordered by Union District Commander Brigadier General Egbert Brown, May 20, 1864 near Warrensburg, MO. An excellent guerrilla fighter, Hadley rode under the command of Silas Gordon's Cavalry unit & was a thorn in Brown's side.

Several errors in that piece but I do find it interesting they mention the jail collapse. Usually Lane's burning of Osceola, MO & the jail collapse which set the stage for Lawrence never get mentioned.

No, Shepherd himself told his friend & former Quantrill member Harrison Trow that he slit Anderson's throat outside the courthouse in Sherman in retaliation for the killing of Ike Flanders.

Ike Flanders is buried in a private family cemetery that is fenced off & locked. Descendants of the family living nearby won't give permission for anyone to enter.

HJ, I don’t. I ran across this pic researching something else and thought it interesting. I read up a little after finding the pic. He served two terms as sheriff and a couple of terms in the KS legislature I believe. He also started the Dodge City Cowboy Band.
