So I have this resistol, which is in pretty good shape except the trolley cord is too short to secure. What solutions might you offer besides removing it?

first check under the sweat to see if there is any slack

if not pull it off and either ... A) leave it off ... or B) grab a new wind trolley and thread it through a wide sewing needle and push the needle through the felt under the ribbon and tie it off under the sweat when you reach the desired length ... boom !!!

also it looks as if the wind trolley is coming out over the top of the ribbon... which is odd to me

I'm guessing a previous owner stretched this hat. It lacks a liner and the ribbon was popped off, but the felt is nice and the price was right.
Thanks!
P.s. I tucked the cord back under the ribbon.
Thanks again

I would just remove it.Liners are readily available if you want one.

I like them too. I even enjoy just saying trolley, maybe because I've never even seen a real one. Anyway, I added an extra inch of loop made from matching embroidery floss. I think the fix is pretty invisible and totally functional .

I don't see the issue. What are you guys securing your wind trolleys to? They're supposed to loop to themselves.

It was too short to loop onto itself and then go around the circumference of the hat. Adding a bit of length to the loop in the form of embroidery floss , gave it the required length to fix.
