Searching for a Stetson Open Road Twenty Five

Thanks, Jack. I didn’t know the OR 3Xs have a taller, straighter crown than the 6Xs.

Also, there are 25's and 3X's out there that are exactly like an Open Road with the exception OR is nowhere to be found in the hat. If that doesn't bother you, it can broaden your search. I have such a 25.

Not speaking for everybody or every hat, I had a 60s model 25 until a few months ago and I was rather disappointed in it. The many 50s/60s 3X, OR, and Strats I have and have handled all had superior felt and finish to the 25 I had. And, as mentioned earlier, there are many vintage models that can be given a cattleman crease and look identical to an Open Road. Give it some thought.

If you get a vintage 3X in your hands, you'll quickly realize that it exceeds the quality of a modern 6X by a country mile. It will likely have a 5 1/2" - 6" open crown, be much more pliable than the stamped out 6Xs you have purchased, and the construction quality will be much higher.

It really is night and day.

You guys have sold me on a 50/60s 3X. I’ll be looking for one now. I think you get what I want. A fine quality hat, which the new ORs don’t quite seem to measure up to.

I’ve got my eye on that one, and another one that’s a wide brim vintage 4X. It’s a bid only auction and I’m waiting for the last few minutes of the auction tomorrow night. Thanks for hanging in with me as I search.

Better I and a couple other guys enjoy the search vicariously, you don’t want to know many hats a bunch of us have!

Hahaha! My collection is pushing twenty, but I know I’m still a bush leaguer.

Hey Tom:
Another suggestion for an OR Collection.
You might keep your eye out for a vintage The Sovereign Open Road Stetson Twenty.
It’s a fine OR iteration and not often seen. A little older than the pictured Twenty Five (non-OR) with the round gold liner crest. I’m not sure i’ve ever seen a round crest 25 branded OR?? Newer ones, yes, like the last pic.

Nice. I think I saw one of these online yesterday. Hmm. I’ll have to retrace my steps. Thanks! Doggone it! I looked and looked, but couldn’t find The Sovereign I thought I had seen. Too many hats, too little time.

Is the hat in the pictures yours?

That’s a great hat. Thanks for calling it to my attention. I’ve got it in my watch group. I’ll check it out more closely later this evening.
Not to butt in Tom, but that's a large brim hat. A far cry from the OR you were looking for originally.
