Saddle shoes

Heeled saddles did exist in the thirties -- they weren't common, but they did exist, especially at the height of the saddle fad of 1936-38. The ones I've seen had a stacked heel with a bit of taper to it, like a housewife oxford, but there might have been some that kept the traditional rubber saddle sole and heel.

I'd agree, though, that those eyelets and the stitching pattern look 70s or 80s. The laces are definitely modern.

Clabbergirl, they look great!

I bought mine from Rocket Originals and they arrived on Saturday morning. I love them, but they do need to be broken in and softened up. I walked around in them all day on Saturday and I got horrible blisters on my heels! But I can tell they're going to be fab when they've softened up and stretched a bit. I bought some shoe stretcher spray today and I might give that a whirl and then walk around in them in thick socks for a bit! Other than the stiff heel that rubbed a bit, they were very comfy though and I'm very happy with them! Good quality and authentic looking I think.

Does anyone know if Muffy's ever runs a sale? I am dying to order a pair of these brown swing saddles but the price is a bit steep for me. I'm trying to keep it under $100/60 pounds, but with leather soles.

Anyone know of any other sellers who have brown and whites with leather soles that might be less expensive?

thank you Clabbergirl! :) ... the shoes are all broken in now - I spent two days walking around the house with wet socks and now they're perfect!! :D

I don't know if Muffy's do a sale.. surely they do? But I have to say I've never noticed one! But I could have missed it of course. Unfortunately can't think of any cheap leather soled ones...

why are you after a leather sole? For dancing? Otherwise I think the soft soles are comfy and squishy to walk on, but not good for dancing obviously.

I received my Willits saddle shoes last week & they are almost worn in. They definitely run narrow. I'm normally a 9.5, I ordered the 10 & while the length is perfect they are still alittle tight across the widest part of my foot even after 3 days breaking in. They'll get there, eventually......

I like the look of the leather sole in comparison to the thicker coral rubber sole. My b&w ones have the rubber sole, and I'd like the next pair, a brown & white pair, to have a thinner silhouette on the bottom - like the leather soled. It's not so much the type of material on the bottom as it is the look for me.

I don't think Muffy's runs sales. I have owned the shoes in the picture for several years and I remember paying less than $100 for them at the time... so perhaps prices have gone up.

I like the leather soles with metal taps. They're a tiny bit slippery... but not much.

Hello All! I am new here and have not posted before but I figured I'd start here! Anyhow, I just bought two pairs of these wonderful saddle oxfords from Bass and I adore them. I think they're reasonably priced and they are one of the most confortable pairs of shoes I have ever worn. I just got back from a three week vacation in Ireland and Scotland and I did loads of walking in them with ease. I bought the Gobi/Navy Leather pair first and then ordered the Golden Brown/Cocoa pair because I love them so much. I cant wait to pair them up with some 1940's trousers I'm about to sew :))

Heres the link to them on Zappos on sale!

Good luck w/ the soles on them! Mine cracked right in half on the front sole. Bass refuses to do anything about it, even though it happened in the first 30 days of wearing them!
