...and when I order someone to lick my boots clean they'll jump at the chance!

That's the kind of out-of-the-box thinking that will take you far in life. :D

Scene clip from: Road to Perdition (those boots were made for walking)

As many of you reading this thread enjoyed the film, "Road to Perdition," I just thought I'd include this little clip of the famous shootout when Tom Hanks (Michael Sullivan) guns down the character of Paul Newman.

Full of dark, rainey atmosphere, it's a great piece, plus you can just imagine Mike Sullivan strolling down that street in his 'boots.'

I'm assuming that was some warm, heart felt & practical advice there Mud regarding winters in Michigan, so thankyou for that my friend.

In the book the town Mike works in is Rock Island, Illinois, IIRC. Remember, the mob ran all the towns and cities, not just the big ones. They controlled the chains of liquor distribution throughout the country, it was like a net.

In some ways they had a farm system like baseball.

As my J. Crew Rugged boots seem to more and more fall apart and as I simply love the clothing of Mike Sullivan in Road to perdition, I was desperately searching for a pair cap toe boots like his, only in brown. Here is the result of my search:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...&ftrv=1&saprclo=&saprchi=&fsop=1&fsoo=1&fvi=1

I think the price is great and I like the color, but I think I'll let the leg be made a bit shorter, so the look more like the ones in Road to Perdition.
I hope they'll fit right!

Regards,
Henrik

Re the alleged non-sturdiness of the Stacey Adams….it wouldn’t really be fair to compare them to a proper boot like the Huntingdon. The Adams are not really a boot, but a high-ankle Oxford shoe. It’s a style rarely made nowadays but was quite common back in the day. You’d wear them in the same situations you’d wear a shoe, they were not meant for striding the moors or digging ditches.

You used to be able to get a range of sturdiness, from these type “shoe boots” through to boots so heavy you could barely lift your feet. I have a pair of 1950s/60s era “shoe boots” on eBay at the moment, also a more recent pair of Sanders boots which are slightly heavier….they‘d class as a light boot rather than a high shoe. But both could be worn with a suit and no one would turn a hair. I’ll post a link in classifieds.

By and large I only wear vintage clothing but I make an exception with footwear - partly to save wear and tear on my original boots and shoes, and partly because in the UK you can easily get footwear of golden age quality and style (there have been pattern changes of course, but pretty minor since the 1950s). I have several Oxford boots similar to the Huntingdon, but my all time faves are the Crockett and Jones Coniston. They are cut on a narrow last and with a fairly pointed toe which gives them a wonderful 1930s look. They are truly a boot, yet elegant enough to wear with a suit. Go look at these porn sites if you dare….....and book mark the second (Japanese) site whilst you’re there because their photos of C&J and Alfred Sargent are the best on the web.

zactly.

i own a black pair which i don't wear very much, as they're a bit too narrow for me. i don't usually require wide width shoes, but if i were to buy this pair over, i'd order the wide width.

if i was made of money, i'd love to own a pair of Tricker's and a pair of Peale's country boots.

(not to mention many others)

I had forgotten about this thread and was going to start a new one...

...to ask if anyone had any experience with Type Z boots.

Unfortunately I haven't found them in anything other than medium width. They're $154 in coffee color.

In black they're currently on sale at $139.

They can be found on Zappos.

Thanks,
Tom

Mike Sullivan meets Marie Antoinette or Scarface?

Don't think so somehow :eusa_doh: I just cannot picture them with all the blacks and grays going on in Mike's wardrobe!!

Makes me think of Tony Montana in Scarface (the 80's version with Al Pacino), which I like as a movie of its times, but definitely those 'Jimmy Choo' or 'Manolo' styled boots are more 'Sex in the City' Tony Montana crossed with old Louis at Versailles and much less a 'tragic hero figure' of 1930's Mike Sullivan.

But thanks for popping the early morning smile on my face with that one!
