I don't know. I watched this film, Road to Perdition and like the clothes and enjoyed the cars, but the plot and story was a little boring. I also found the film to be a little to drawn out with the dialogue in monotones.:(

Chinatown? Excellent film.

30's - Miller's Crossing - Gabriel Byrne in a Cohn Bros film? Wicked good

I'm reminded of it every time I drive past the "Barton Arms"

Road to Perdition is definitely good. I also like Gosford Park, I Capture the Castle, the Indiana Jones films, The Mummy (the modern one), and I also have a soft spot for Swing Kids.

The "Danny Boy" fight....

"The old man always was an artist with a Thompson."

Excellent characters (played by a fantastic cast), no one is really "good", everybody's got an angle.

Yeah, Miller's Crossing is a great one.

"I'm talkin' about friendship. I'm talkin' about character. I'm talkin' about--hell, Leo, I ain't embarassed to use the word--I'm talkin' about ethics..."

you gotta love a film that starts like that!

In fact several Coen brothers films could be contenders in this thread.

"Road To Perdition" is brilliant, very atmospheric. More recently I really enjoyed "Seabiscuit" and, somewhat further back, the costuming for "Tucker: The Man and His Dream" was great.

The Great Depression, 1933, on the water front, James Braddock a.k.a the "Bulldog Of Bergen" stands behind locked gates, awaiting to rush in and get an honest pays work at the docks, awaiting with another thousand men behind him. The gates open, he rushes in! Just seconds before the gate closes. This was an everyday in September 1933 in New York Harbor.

This is one of the few GREATEST MOVIES I HAVE SAT AT THE EDGE OF MY SEAT to see. I've only seen it once, in a moviehouse.
