I recall him fighting Sonny Liston years ago and saw no way for him to win, but he beat the guy twice. His success did not come though without a great price - TBI (traumatic brain injury).

I just wish the fight against mr. Inkoi wasn't such a farce. That would've been something to remember alright...

My dad was a huge Ali fan - and that was not the norm for a white man in the South in the 60/70's. I followed my Dad's lead. The part that always gets me is seeing all the pictures of Ali with other bigwigs. Almost always, the bigwig is grinning like an adolescent boy meeting his hero. Other than maybe the Pope, I can't think of another person who just dominated the room the way Ali did.

RIP Champ.

The 60s fights were on the Radio. they couldn't do live Blow by Blow, they would do a synopsis at the End of each Round. I was a Smokin' Joe Frazier fan, bob and weave. Howard Cosell interviews on Wide World of Sports. He was a powerful figure in so many ways.

I agree with Fanch that there was no way Ali could beat Sonny Liston. We all were for him, but Liston was just so big and so dominant. I believe that fight was on the radio, as I seem to remember listening to it rather than watching it. What a surprise when Ali won the fight.
