You can put in meta tags if you code the auction yourself, then you can have just about everything in there.

It doesn't bother me that sellers use all those terms in their listing title - what does miff me is when it is a blatant lie. I saw a listing for a black sweater once, which turned out to be brown and cream striped. I sent a message to the seller, pointing out the mistake, thinking I was doing her a favour and that maybe she hadn't realised she'd wrongly listed it. She replied, saying that it wasn't a mistake and she'd listed it like that because more people search for black sweaters than brown/cream ones.

you guys may laugh but how else you gonna find the stuff if sellers don't shove in as many relevent search words as poss? remember that a lot of this stuff has multiple markets. If I sell a a pair of vintage engineer boots for example I have got to reach (at a minimum) the rockabillies, the goths, the punks, and the bikers, not all of whom will even know they are called engineer boots...hence "vintage 1950s engineer motorcycle boots [biker goth punk rockabilly 50s 50's 1950's rock'n'roll motorbike]...."

and I've not even mentioned the gay fetish crowd....
OK night, you have a point. Not everybody with money to spend frequents goth mod emo punk WWII biker retro fetish gangster hippie rockabilly gay emo swing engineer deco swingabilly skinhead disco eBay aaarrrgghghh.

It's just a little depressing searching thru all this stuff. Calling a mid 50s tie deco may not be as blatant a lie as calling a brown sweater black, but it's still a lie.

Point well made, Night. And GOK, yeah, I did forget Goth!

The inaccuracies bug me, too, hence the 'zoot suit' reference. Every second mens suit made before 1955 is listed on the 'bay as a 'zoot suit.' Umm, NO! Then there's one character who consistently tries to flog 70's suits as 40's or 50's . . .

My favorite recent RETRO PUNK DECO SWING EMO GOTH ROCKBILLY MOD auction was a women's WWII Army jacket being modeled by a skinny guy wearing jeans. You know those auctions where the person modeling the item looks all pouty and tries to "pose" and look about a million times cooler than they actually are? I can only guess it was some kind of emo guy, although to be honest I'm not even 100% clear on what "emo" actually is.

I wanted to send him a message and say, "You do realize that is a WOMAN'S jacket, don't you?" but I decided against it, and instead just forwarded the auction to all my friends. lol

The guy who always wears the big sunglasses, and has pictures of him posing that show almost nothing about the clothes?

Yes, I believe we speak of one and the same. The auction is still up, for anyone who might need a good chuckle, check out # 150058869762.

I'm now fascinated by this seller and had to check out some of his other auctions. Apparently he also employs a female and a small child who also don ginormous sunglasses and peddle his wares on the 'bay. Fascinating!

Wikipedia on emo

I gather emos wear little skinny pants, buttons with band names on, and what used to be known as Beatle bangs. They mope and act depressed, and talk about their personal lives on bulletin boards.

Ah, thank you for enlightening me. How... interesting. I really like the Urban Dictionary definition, very helpful. lol

I'll tell you one thing - Emo is NOT Goth. Emo rip off Goth.

Disco lives on!

I have no problem with Disco. It made those people happy to wear white suits so let them have their white suits! Don't condemn them for it! :)

By the way, I listen to Disco music and am PROUD of it! :D

It's always interesting when so many words stand for the same thing.

I find the disco era interesting. It drew on a lot of old influences such as 20s due to Bonny and Clyde having just come out plus the hippie attraction to the era especially vintage blues, and the 30s and 40s due to a revival of glamour and an interest in the past as rejection of the present.

the disco era was kind of last hurrah for the age of glamour. Partner dancing, dressing up, vintage glamour such as disco balls, cut on the bias gowns, champagne, etc... I would take that era over styles tat came after it such as punk, grunge etc. oo bad that it came along at the same time as all that bad fabric, and the hippie hair.

They are just mad becaus they want to find the stuff that they want at a bargain because it was miscategorized and they are the only bidder.

Oh, and don't forget the "Not Levis, Not Wranglers etc." THey want to reach the buyer but can't lie and say it is levis or whatever, so the say not levis so it will still come up in the search.

And Goths rip-off Victorian fashion and Vampires.
At least when it's done PROPERLY they can look pretty good. They actually respect those periods in time-Victorian for example. They just put their own twist on it. There's no difference between people wearing vintage and goths enjoying the old times in costume/fashion as well!! I prefer the Victorian /Vampire thing than trashy Emo rip off.;)
