Reproduction Suits & Jackets?

While searching the internet, I discovered http://www.prohibitionclothing.com which had some beautiful action back sport coats. I have sent numerous emails with no response. Is http://www.prohibitionclothing.com still in business. I have been corresponding with Stuart aka Chester Cordite and Gary aka Mapledoram about suits. I really desire the 30s action back style, but being 5,5' with short legs, Chester's suits might be too long. Mapledoram is the 40s, but I might go that way. Suggestions or ideas appreciated.

I am not really keen of casual/country clothing (vintage or not) so I'm not an expert with belt-backs and action-backs. However, you may check with the company SJC (Simon James Cathcart) which makes good reproductions of Golden Era sport clothing (and much more) in a lot of sizes. I think action back sports suits have been planned, if not even already produced.

Thank you for the suggestions. I have visited reviewed SJC, Chester, Mapledoram(etsy) and ThomasFarthing with all make nice outfits. Its funny how belt-back & action back where casual, but overdressed these days. I go to church wearing a button up shirt, slacks and a shawl cardigan and i am overdressed. There is something about the pleats on an action-back that just add to the detail and sets it apart from all other jackets. I discovered I even like saddle pockets(someone described on this site) like the suit Clark Gable wears in, " It Happened One Night" . Best wishes

I know Magnolia http://www.magnoliclothiers.com/ is doing action back too, and I am longing for it (to get something a bit like Wooster at the countryside...). Has anyone try them to assess the quality and cut? Best,

Magnoli Clothiers' cloth selection could use work. He tends to use lighter weights that aren't particularity evocative of original vintage pieces.

I agree with you. I have seen a Magnoli Clothier's jacket time ago and while I liked the styling (though maybe a bit aggressive) I wasn't very impressed by the cloth, way too light even for a modern fall-weight suit. They appear to use cashmere blends, which add the impression of heft but they are very prone to wrinkling and wearing fast.
Also, but this may be a reflection of the fact the jacket belonged to their RTW line, I found that they cut a somewhat deep armhole, which does contribute to a boxy appearance.

On the contrary, I am aware of the fact that SJC uses vintage-weight fabrics.

This goes into belt backs. SJC changed their design after reading this and thanked me. I have a few friends that have their beltbacks and might post a few shots with their updated design soon. Chester Cordite has a pretty good look when it comes to their details. Quite post war.
