Gap stores in London have a really nice '1969' indigo denim shirt that has contrasting white stitching and 1930s engineer pockets. The collar is a good size too. On sale for £14.99. My local GAP in Kingston has tons of them!

I just ordered these from River Junction. They look so much like the Rising Sun ducks (cinch, rear pocket shape, rivets just like the Carhartts above), for about 20% of the cost, that I had to give them a shot.

They look decent but the lack of a left back pocket and belt loops really kills them. just my opinion.

Seeing as jeans are mostly workwear, and the selvedge pics above... has anyone ever made "fake selvedge"? I experimented with it yesterday with some decent results. I ended up taking old selvedge from a tailored pair of selvedge 501's and sewing an inch or two into the seam of a non selvedge jean, so when cuffed they look selvedge. am I cheating ? ha

I couldn't disagree more. One pocket, like the 1873 LVC ducks that are priced too high, is exactly the kind of thing that makes them more authentic, and belt loops for pants made for suspenders would be very odd. Sewing "fake" selvedge onto jeans is exactly like sewing Gucci labels onto fakes. It doesn't make the purse Gucci, and it doesn't make the denim selvedge.

I would agree with to some extent, but why do you buy selvedge ? I buy it to be able to cuff it and get that nice look with the white and red/blue. I am just tired of the over-priced selvedge.

Aside from the ducks above (which have been sold and replaced with the non-selvedge River Junction pants), the only selvedge I own is thrifted - no more than $7 for each of the 2 pair I own. For me, it's more about having the small loom denim (over the large loom blown stuff that I own plenty of) than wearing an ankle bracelet, even a pretty one.

Fair enough. I just like how the selvedge cuff just makes it look uniquely vintage. but back to workwear.

I visited Unionmade in San Fran earlier this summer on my west coast vacation. I was very impressed with the store and picked up a pair of selvedge denims. That was an unplanned purchase. The guys on staff were very helpful, as well. Some of the items are very hard to find elsewhere, so having staff knowledgeable of those items is a bonus.

It was exciting to see all of their products in one shop, where I'm used to seeing fine merchandise only online. The St. James tops, variety of selvedge denim and chinos, leather goods, filson bags, Alden shoes, just a great curated collection for men only!! :arated:

Some of the items gave me sticker shock, like the Dickies 1922 stuff. However, those on this forum as probably well aware of the cost of fine goods. I found their prices to be in balance with those elsewhere. Anything in particular items you were questioning?

Selvedge denim feels notably different, than non selvedge. They also have different fading properties. Not saying non selvedge denim don't fade well, but when people are looking for a certain look, such as the slubby look from PBJ, only selvedge denim will achieve said looks. It's all preference in the end.

Don't buy anything from River Junction, ever.

I was aware of the 20% restocking fee at their discretion on refunds. What that actually means is that it's a mandatory fee. I'm willing to eat $30 (the 20% plus the $12 in shipping they charged me -for the $6 mailing cost they incurred - and that $6 I'll spend to get them back there) to get these the hell out of my home.

They look good enough. Not spectacular, but very nice for the price.

But I wouldn't buy these if I saw them for $3 in a thrift store.

The pocket bags are really thin.

But who really cares about such a small detail.

How about the buttons. They're barely sewn on, and make a dime look thick.

Those thin buttons are pretty sharp, and are likely to shred through the badly sewn buttonholes before too long.

Worst of all is the weight. They felt pretty light right out of the envelope (yep, they didn't even use a box), but I didn't expect them to be this thin.

They're pure garbage. I hope that, by posting this, none of you will ever feel the need to buy from River Junction.

I find selvedge denim to be superior to run-of-the-mill denim. Maybe it's the heavier weight, or just the rich indigo color most selvedge denim has, either way I prefer it. The idea that it ages with you is also good.
