Replacement for Carhartt Chore Coat

There is an "army navy" surplus store here in Portland called Andy & Bax. They are carrying "used" (gently it seems) Carhartt chore coats. I have no idea where they get them from but last time I was there they had a great selection of larger sized ones. They had several colors some of which I had never seen before.

As a conclusion to the thread, I ordered a L.C. King "Landon" Barn coat, received it and I'm very pleased. It's USA made, fits perfect for what I wanted which is fall & winter layering, long enough to fit over a T & sweater or a T shirt, long sleeve shirt, and wool vest. It was 13 degrees outside today and I worn it over a LS Bayside cotton T and light-medium weight "Lee Valley" Ireland merino wool sweater. I was perfectly comfortable although there was minimal wind and plenty of sunshine outside. Coat is IMO closer to a Chore Coat design and cut, has a blanket lining and is cut perfectly for layering. L.C. King's site was dead on for measurements, quick to ship and kept me posted every stop the coat made on the way to me. I looked at everything I could find to replace my Carhartt although there seems to be a trend on close fitting items, clothing that imo appears too snug, almost undersized for the purpose and form. I can't recommend L.C. King enough, very straight forward company, quick to ship, great communication and above all, a great USA product. :)

Hi Retromoto,

I’m on the point of ordering one of these jackets too. Can I ask your measurements and what size you went for? I’m 6’3, 43 chest and they have recommended a Medium tall which seems a bit small for me? Also, how does the colour on the site compare to the jacket in the flesh? Any fit pictures?

Regards

Garry

Garry,
I'm 5'11-1/2" tall, 185lbs, 45" chest, 34" waist. 33" sleeve. Compared LCK's online measurements to my other coats and ordered a "Large". As mentioned I wanted something long enough to cover a wool vest or sweater and loose enough to layer with. The large would be too large for me if I wore it solo over a T shirt. My guess is the size they recommended for you is very close as they seem to run a bit large, I typically wear a XL for layering so was hesitant but it worked out well. The color in person is imo a bit darker brown than the pictured item, less golden. I don't have pics right now, I've had issues posting pics on this forum. The forum says it's too large a file although I've never had issues on other sites:(
Good luck,
G.

@Retromoto, glad you finally found a replacement. It took two years. Thanks for letting us know the resolution.
Yep, it's been couple years. I did make CC purchase last year although sent it back. I also dropped
20lbs and was able to sub another coat for layering in place until I found something more appropriate.
I guess I'm a little picky, coat had to be, right length, cut for layering, sleeves lined with something smooth and made in USA. I'm patient though and it worked out in the end.

I have a couple of LC King's chore coats and like them very much. They are a a bit light weight and loose cut, but that is what I wanted. Sizing is ample in my experience they don't shrink much.
