Real McCoys > all others. Why?

I’ve been looking at a lot of old posts about sheepskin jackets (b3s Anj4s etc) from early 2000s and my impression is that a vast majority thought/think that RM make/made (apparently their NZ business shut down) the best sheepskin jackets.

Why is RM revered so highly? What made their products better?

I'm not authority, dont necessarily think that they do make the best sheepskin jackets - from my perspective when I had a chance to check one out their was not all that much difference between a RmC B3 and an Aero B3 I had. I do think that their horsehide jackets are a cut above a lot of others, but not better than anything else out there

I had a New Zealand made rmc real Mccoys. It was a nice jacket but I wouldn’t say it blew me away. the lining in my 80’s jacket that came from the trunk of a car in northern Manitoba was just as nice.

If I recall, RMCNZ did the jackets for Band of Brothers. I recently rewatched and now that I'm into jackets, I took note of these. As soon as I saw first A2, I was like holy cow, that looks slick. Not the usual potato sack. Later in episodes, there's a scene with the Lt. (David Schwimmer) wearing I think a B3 but it was cut like a D1. Just looked super comfortable and not bulky at all, very stylish. At that point I was like I have to find out who made these jackets.

Did some research here and found out they were RMCNZ. But then was told that one of the original main people over there was now operating under Toys McCoy.

This weekend I caved to my every weakness and bought a TMC B3. I've seen photos of people wearing and it's just everything I want. I can't speak to the military specifications and all that, but for me it captures a perfect balance of military fashion style. Quality wise I'm sure it'll be up there with anything else. I do have an Aero B3 I can compare it to once it gets here. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the Aero and I consider it one of my best made jackets. But what put the TMC over the top was the more modern cut. I guess if I got an Aero D1 or asked for a B3 with thinner shearling in the sleeves, I could have gotten close as well.

So bottom line, it was more modern cut that gave it the edge. But I think you can't go wrong with shearling by Eastman, Aero, RMC, and TMC. Eastman seems to be more about the finish. RMC and TMC more about the cut. Aero kind of the happy medium. But I don't think you're getting a 3x better jacket with TMC because it costs 3x more than Aero.

Also, Fivestar, everything shearling I've seen from them looks amazing. I'd say easily the sleeper in the group and best value.

It's all about the sheepskin they used up until about 10 years ago when Fenland went bust. The skins were just amazing, thick dense merino fleece with a great outer coating, also really thick leather straps on the B3's.
I have had sheepskins from everyone, they are all good but RMNZ just had that little bit extra somehow. No so much the patterns but the materials.
