Wait, no it's not:

"the owners plan to shutter the Italian-themed Rainbow Grill restaurant temporarily while keeping the establishment's bar, banquet space and dinner-dancing going on the 65th floor of the RCA building."

Bella, it just states it is going to shut the restaurant temporarily but doesn't say when it will be back. I guess we are both correct. [huh]
I think I was sad as I had just been driving around looking at old Victorian homes in total neglect.

This looks like a PR spin by Cipriani, who are squabbling with the owners over their lease. In the twenty years since acquiring the lease Cipriani have been very inconsistent with their management of the RR; opening and closing various rooms, changing hours of operation, moving the food quality/price-point up and down, revolving door personnel, etc..........I could think of at least a dozen other restaurant groups which could have done a much better job.

Hmmm, I was just thinking of doing a search on this forum for anything about the Rainbow Room and then lo and behold, here's this thread!

I too, read that the closing was only temporary in nature, but it was sad nonetheless. My husband and I are planning on going there for our anniversary in April. It's something we've wanted to do for quite some time and I'm saving my pennies daily, as I know it'll hurt the pocketbook, but I don't care a whit. I just want to see the place with my own two eyes.

Has anyone else been there that's a NY'er? Anything in particular that I should know before going?

This was to continue the discussion (update) about the Rainbow room thread started earlier. I looked for it but could not find it till yesterday. Maybe you could merge them.

Thank you. I did know that but didn't even realize I was the one that started the previous one. Just remember there was one.
I have never been to the Rainbow Room but have always understood or known of it as the ultimate in luxury.
Perceptions are funny. I am disappointed many times and expect more for some reason. Not sure what it is I expect.
Paris and Peabody Hotel are examples. Though of course they have their charms I personally expected more. Sad really.
So for anyone who has gone to the Rainbow Room, does it exceed your imaginations and/or worth saving.
I like knowing there are places like this anyway.

The bar at the Rainbow Room that overlooks Manhattan exceeds imagination. It is a spectacular view and with a martini, you feel like royalty.

Thank you Brian. Seems they are looking for a new restauranteur in the link from yesterday. It would definitely take the right person. Maybe someone from the FL could do it.

Scotland far, far exceeded my expectations and I went there in the winter. I cannot imagine it in the Spring. It was a magical place. Truly. :eek:fftopic:
