Battle of Britain. August 8th. Nursing his shot up Spitfire in to land.
Cockpit filled with smoke....at 500 feet he puts down wheels and flaps and turns in to land.
At 400 feet the long-suffering engine catches fire and it rapidly spreads to the cockpit. To low to baile out, the pilot lands the Spitfire and jumps out of it at 45 m.p.h.

It has to be P/O C.A. Bodie then Soren. He is mentioned a few times in one of 'Dizzy' Allen's books. He sadly did not survive the war.

Well - according to "Ten Fighter Boys" Allen got his nickname "Dizzy" because of his behaviour, which was "fun, games and schoolboy pranks"
