Jacob Reed's and Sons was an authorized manufacturer of clothing for the military. It appears this coat was made for a midshipman (M. B. Caldwell) at the Naval Academy. The address is probably his company at the Academy. I would dig into it further, but other things press.

If your chest measures a true 40" that is a two size drop. Are you able to wear anything other than a thin shirt underneath?
A thin cashmere sweater works. I am warm in the cold Wisconsin below zero conditions, with a good scarf, and a tweed drivers hat. I stay away from the bulky look.

Won a bid on a 1949 coat in great shape this morning. It's a 36 measured the same exact size as the 34 that I have. I'm excited to compare. I really need to stop though, my wife is getting.... Irritated with these coats everywhere. Time to sell some lol.

Lol. That's why mine are hanging in my closet at work.

Just to finish off my grandfather's Camp Lejeune mystery @Peacoat was correct. My grandmother informed me that the Marines wanted to send him home during the war for officer training, but he wasn't having it. He stayed with the troops, finished out the war, and shipped home. Thanks again, guys.

I almost bid against you for that one, but had to exercise some self control lol- glad you picked it up! Let me know if it doesn’t work out!

Hope none of you guys wear a size 42. I'm going to try to buy the one ending tomorrow.

My third WWII coat just arrived. It's the one I posted a page or two back. I got it for $17. Shipping cost more at $19. The size wasn't definitive in the listing, but it fits me like the rest of my coats, so it must be a 42. The latch is present on the collar, the wool is in excellent condition, and all buttons are present and tight. The ONLY deficiency is a tear in the liner near the top of the coat. I'll take it to the tailor and I think, even with their fee, this thing will be a steal.

Oh that's a steal alright.

To determine the size of that coat, please see my thread on how to determine the proper fit of Navy peacoats, see the link below:

Crazy steal. Most of the coats from WW2 on ebay that are in good condition are for sale $300+ which seems high to me but hey scarcity.

Yeah I've been noticing they've been going up in price by quite a lot, some are still cheap but a lot are showing up well above $100 or even $200. Also, somewhat surprised that people have been fitting in such small peacoats, I had a 1950s (I believe) model that was only a size down from my regular size but I couldn't layer with it well, and it was very restrictive.

Thanks man. I hope that it's in as good of condition as the seller says. It looks decent but the picture were kind of terrible. Somebody messed those buttons up too so I'll need to fix that. Clearly won't button from the right with how uneven it is.

Shoot! The 1949, in my size, has fourteen people watching. Hopefully, I'll be able to land it for around $75.

I nabbed the 1949 in my size. $66 + $20 shipping. That puts me at eight coats. I just need to find a birth year 1968 and I should be done.

Eight must be the lucky number. I just nabbed a WWII with 38 neck tag in tact. Looks almost unworn. We will see.
