Question: what about the new ELC Type A-2 Star Sportswear Contract 28557?

Fellow Loungers,

Apart from a B3 I have an Aero A-2 Anniversary in russet (size 44). It's a fine jacket, but now I also 'need' a A-2 in seal, or else I will be unhappy for the rest of my life (or at least that's what I told my wife).

What about the new ELC USAAF Type A-2 Star Sportswear Contract 28557?

My questions:
Has anyone seen this jacket in person? Any reviews whatsoever?
Is this grained WarHorse hide as thin as the usual ELC WarHorse?

(If there is already a tread on this jacket I most humbly apologise)

Thanx,

Mathew

Am interested in the same or similar quality jackets.

From what I've learned and seen overhere Goodwear is probably the way to go if you want the Ultimate Alpha-2.

Lets hope the Financial and Politcal Fuzzy Wuzzies in Europe bring a strong Euro upon us.

One should have A-2s BOTH in Russet and Seal Brown. That is just inevitable. :)

That being said, I recently got ELC's Star repro A-2 from Ebay, but it's the older version (once discontinued) so I cannot really speak on their new war horse material. Maybe because of its thin leather, it is very easy and comfy to wear compared to other A-2s from Japanese makers. Or perhaps that is because of the 'set-in sleeves' which I heard is a distinctive feature of a Star A-2 (but I don't know exactly what it does).. It also has a pointy collar without collar stand. So it tends to spread wide on the shoulders once broken in.

The latest Star is an improvement on previous versions. More of the details are correct, including the colour of the leather, which was too dark. However the hh is too thick and shiny. The GW version is closer to originals IMO.

You're damn right about that one, Benthusian.

Andrew: don't get me wrong - I think you're one of the greatest connaisseurs of genuine WW2 A-2's I know- but I'm rather pleased to hear that Eastman's horsehide this time is rather to thick than to thin...

Yeah mister, some easy talking here.
I have a russet Alpha-2, my wife is a judge at the local court.
Buying shoes, bags and everyother female accoutrement needed in the city seems no problem.
Me receiving some packages from the U.S. every week is another story.
For sure my problem.

Seal Alpha-2 will be sent to a friend's address.

That is exactly why we all should be using office address for shipping.

..Well, smuggling stuff from there to your home closet is something else, though. ;)

Maybe your wife will have a softer reaction if it arrives soon since this is the time of year for peace and good cheer.
Good luck, Hankh!
