Question to old guys that wear a Cafe Racer

I'm over 50 and couldn't give a flying rat's *** what anyone thinks. I wear whatever I like.

That said, I've never liked the Cafe Racer style. Never liked leather jackets that don't have a collar. So I'd never be caught dead wearing one.

The one Jensen Huang is wearing looks like ****. Probably very expensive ****, but it still looks like ****.

I am a couple of days off 48, which I consider to be reasonably old (or I more frequently, at least, consider age in terms of what I wear: I'm either very formal or t-shirt/flannel shirt, jeans/cargo pants and weathered boots type of person). I think I only ever feel self-conscious in leather jackets if they are new. If the jacket looks well worn-in or smashed up, it suits me (who now looks quite well worn-in and smashed up, too): longevity of ownership seems to signal long-term use, which in turn suggests to others that it's part of a personal style. New jackets seem to imply trying to appear a certain way to create an effect. I quite happily wear the brown CR below; the blackened brown one I will only feel ok in when it's suitably mauled. I wear it less because it isn't bashed, which means it will take longer to get more wear... if you see what I mean.

The main thing isn't age as much as fitness, though: a lean person looks better in almost anything than a larger person. It is unfortunate (I am far from thin), but I think it's true. Other people may well have different views and it's only my two cents' worth.

Definitely true that a fitter person looks better in almost anything. And the fitter you are, the more you can get away with. A very athletic looking guy can drape a curtain around himself and still look good.

As far as new or old jackets, I'm the opposite: I like new! I don't know if I'd like wearing an old, beat up jacket. All my jackets are in like new condition, and I like it that way! I love black, shiny horsehide leather. I'm not even sure what horsehide looks like when it breaks in and ages. I have too many jackets, so I rotate them. None of them have any wear yet. If any of them do eventually get worn out and beat up, I'd probably sell them and just buy a shiny new one.

I'm 51 and do wear my rmc j100 from time to time. I am contemplating picking up a schott P613SH as well but that is a big if. I have 4 total atm and do rotate thru them. As long I like how they look, I don't really care about what others think :)
That sounds good. I wish I could feel that way. Among the people I know I am the rare bird with my leather jackets.

His jacket looks like its alligator skin, look at the horizontal lines on it setting the pattern. I wouldn't be surprised if that was some Brunello Cucinelli piece that cost him like $18,000.
As Doctor Death said a couple messages above me, it still looks bad. I'm sure it's very expensive but that doesn't make it look better.

My take away from this is you can't buy cool, you either have it ...or your don't.

I think thats where these tech people wearing these jackets because they think it conveys a message and makes them look a certain way comes across different to people wearing the jackets because the love the jackets and could care less about what other people think about them.

Guys, let him wear the jacket! I don´t particularly like it either, but since when is this forum about being judgemental what jacket one is allowed to wear?
