Question on proper storage

I'm guessing the best place to keep a hat, when not on your head, is in it's box. At some point I'll make a nice rack to hold them, but until then, I want to keep them safe. I'd be bummed if a hat ever got damaged.:(

My environment in fine; but would you take a precaution and put a few Cedar chips in the box? And would you put a small packet of Silica Gel in there to draw out any moisture?

Thanks in advance for the tips.

I probably am not the best one to answer, but until someone else comes along, I will try. I store in boxes to keep dust off them. I don't know about how much moth protection that provides. There have been a couple of good threads on moth protection here. As to the jel. I think I might be inclined to pass on anything that would have a drying effect if it would likely effect the sweat band. I don't know if it would hurt the felt or not, but you would not want it around a Panama as they need moisture added.[huh]

I have never used silica gel, but I recommend cedar highly. Chips, balls, blocks, whatever. Just be sure to replace it with fresh cedar ever year. It not only helps repel moths, but also reduces minor unwanted odors.
