PT109 The Early Years

I thought some of you might enjoy this sight. It's a history of PT109 before JFK became it's Skipper. Very interestingly reading, plus, lots on the early Elco 77' boats that made up most of the squadrons complement at the time. Also, if you go to the main page, there is even more on the 77 footers, which I am partial to! Be warned, there are lots of mistakes in editing, paragraphs out of order, and a lot of ? marks, for no apparent reason, I know there are a few hear that this will drive to the looney bin! Still, a great read, worth your time to muddle through. My favorite was the fact that a lot of the boats didn't even know there was a destroyer near until their boats started rocking from the wake! That answers that question! I also read on another sight, the reason the 37mm field piece was temporarily tied to PT109 was, if they left it on the dock, when they came back from patrol it would have been gone! Apparently, that is one part of McHale's Navy that was factual! http://pt-king.gdinc.com/PT109article.html

Nice article. I read the entire thing and though the editing was annoying the story more than made up for it. What a crowd of sailors. They really did not sink that much but were certainly an annoyance to the enemy. And how they forced the enemy to change tactics will never be known.
