Okay I have to ask this. I remember seeing something on Oprah a long time ago about this lady who used Preparation H for years on her face. She was in her 50s but looked a lot younger. She said her secret was Preparation H on her face. Anyone ever here of this being done or tried it themselves?

You know, I heard it was good for shrinking puffy under eyes, so I did try it once. I seem to remember that it didn't soak in like I wanted it to - stayed on the surface too long to blend under makeup. But it was a while ago... [huh]

I am kind of ashamed to admit it but I did try it on my puffy eyes for about a week and all it did was make me look like I had greasy, puffy eyes. I don't think anything really soaks into your skin. It just gets smeared on the surface. I am not a doctor but I believe we are nonporous. Prep.H is made to work on tissue other than skin.

Actually, our skin is very porous and chemicals soak in readily. I heard that the company that makes it took the active ingredient out that had the shrinking effect on tissues a few years ago.

Hmm, maybe an off-brand of PH would have that shrinking chemical still in it! Now that I hit my 30s, I'm starting to see a small wrinkle lines develop and I don't like it one bit. So I'd try Prep H if I thought it'd work.

My mom swears by Strivectin- I believe you can get it at Costco now! It's expensive, to my knowledge though.

Oh ITG~ be on the lookout for an eye cream with a bit of alpha hydroxy- I TINY bit though, thats good for laugh lines. Don't use regular strength or your eyes will burn right out of your head:eek:

The 50+ woman on Oprah probably had good genes, face creams can delay the inevitable, but they aren't miracles. The most important thing is to stay out of the sun, taking care of your skin and staying hydrated can help too, but only up to a point. That is why cosmetic surgeries are so popular these days.

I've heard that the only Prep H formula that you can use on your face is the Canadian version (with the green label). It is used for models and actors whose faces swell up from partying or crying.

Even so it has limited usefulness. As others have mentioned, the only thing that it can do is relieve puffiness, and only if it is temporary puffiness. If you have fat deposits under your eyes, you might as well go see a plastic surgeon.

If you need eye cream, you should really try eye cream, which is made for under your eyes. I don't want to think about what would happen if you get Prep H too close to your eyes. I've had good luck with Chanel's eye cream for puffiness, Age Delay eye, and it soaks in immediately. Even so a cheaper one would probably help too.

If you have morning puffiness, try a hot compress instead.

Don't know if this is :eek:fftopic:

Someone told me to use in on one of my tattoos. Bad idea. I don't know if it became infected from that or it was infected before. Shudder. Bad experience.

The "old wives' tale" in my part of the woods said that after ya makes yer cuppa tea, to take 2 cooled-down, gently squeezed-dry (still damp) black tea bags and let them rest on your closed eyes for 10-15 minutes. I can see how that might work, black tea being rich in tannins, which are natural astringents.

But don't shut yourself away from all sunlight, as we need sunlight to maintain our Vitamin D levels. No (excessive) tanning will definitely help your skin stay good and bright longer.

I heard that as well, but I've always heard specifically to use camomile tea bags. Plus, drinking camomile tea is supposed to help soothe the stomach and help with menstrual cramps, so you can kill two birds with one stone!

Zzz...

Sleep is a real big factor too. Good deep sleep so your body can renew and do all its body type things that we never notice. I don't often get puffy eye unless I sleep on a feather pillow (I think I have allergies) but I do notice dark circles if I don't get a proper sleep cycle.

:eek:fftopic: this is a littel off but the camomile tea steeped super strong and sponged on is wonderful for calming sunburns and stopping the itch if you ever have the pleasure of having sun poisoning.
