I think I posted this picture before but it really needs more attention. Go to the original page and see the large version. It's france in 1938 (!) and we have crazy knitwear, crazy sport shoes and a printed T-Shirt.

Haha, yes. It's great too. looks like a knitted version of a "college jacket" doesn't it? I posted it on my tumblr. But the group picture shows more different outfits.

I tuck my trousers into my socks when I'm on a bike - and my family all laugh at me. Think what they'd do if i wore plus fours!

Great pictures, Fastuni. Vintage sports and casualwear is my favourite thing right now.

Another great source for inspiration are the bystanders at cycling events. Unlike the rather blasé crowd at some polo and horse racing events we see an amazing mix of rumpled suits and sports shirts, plus fours, knitwear and so on...

Great! Hm... polo shirt with beret. I need to wear that combination more often.

Is this his rib-cage sticking out? o_O (Probably he is taking deep breaths...)

Cycling jerseys had buttoned front pockets. Not the ripcage. Just some stuff.

I think I've linked this in the french catalog scan thread but there is a cycling catalog from 1938, the same years as the boule-picture and there is shirt with "unis sport" print (and front pocket). It's great to have a comparsion between catalog pictures and the same garments worn in real life.

There is a book published recently about the 1914 Giro D'Italia is renowned as the toughest cycling race in history. It's an account by the author of his attempt to experience it as the original cyclists would, including the clothes they wore, which included a woollen jumper and underwear(!). Here's what he looked like:
