John Charles Meussdorferr was a well established man in his day even beyond the hat business.

Fantastic research and presentation! In the John Charles Meussdorferr obituary it mentions "Oscar learned the business in Ulm, Wurtenberg, .." which I am sure was at Mayser Hat Manufacturer Ulm.

Also one of the advertisements mentions Culmbach which is Kulmbach, Bavaria. I did a quick search and couldn't find anything hat related but the Meussdorferrs were a important Kulmbach family.

Thanks for the additional info mayserwegener! The Stetson No.1 arrived today. Super nice!

Unable to edit my original post, however here's the tags. I've added to the LOT thread also and I will repost in The Fray. Thanks

Lovin' this!

Wow! Love the pebble finish of the sweat, and everything else about this hat as well.

Thanks very much, Gents! I wish the sweatband was in better shape. It's so dry, just looking at it creates new cracks. I have conditioned it with mink oil and while it helped, this sweat is pretty far gone. It looks good on the surface, but it really can't even be touched. The felt however is fantastic.

Great snag... thanks for posting the detailed pictures. I would second your guess of 1930s on all elements with exception of the manufacturing tag, which is c.1940 and on. But late 1930s, early 1940s is a good bet.

I think I have something that fits this topic. I'm trying to find out as much as I can about this hat so I can get it in the hands of a collector who can care for it properly. I've been researching for a couple of weeks and if I did my research right this is a No. 1 Quality from the late 20's early 30's (judging by the tags). I could be wrong though. I took it to a local hatter, he said that it was a common hat but that he had never seen a high crown version. This doesn't match with what I've seen on here and other places. Any info on this would be appreciated. This hat is odd in that it is in spectacular condition, but the band is rotted. There doesn't seem to be any discoloration or holes in the hat and it is very malleable but the felt feels very firm and thick. Any information would be appreciated. Thank you very much.
