Thanks for your notes... the Excellent Stetson is on its way to one of our larger headed members. I'm sure we will see it worn well before too long.

This isn't new to the lounge, but I have owned it for a while and felt it needed to be photo documented. The former owner has pulled their photos from the site.

This one dates to somewhere around 1889 to the very early 1890's. It has what I believe to be the first generation Stetson reorder tag. I have never seen an actual Stetson hat from before the 1880's, so I am assuming this reorder tag is one of the earliest tags.

Lucked out on this one for sure, it has an early size sticker marking it a 7 1/4 but the sweatband has withdrawn a smidge making the hat fit more like a loose size 7.

Beautiful finish, definitely a dress weight hat though, the felt is dense and thick but incredibly smooth. They did amazing pouncing on the felt. Very easy to handcrease. Without a doubt one of the finer hats i'll ever own.

Here's the pre-1930 Stetson Stetsonian I picked up last week from eBay. Warning: Image heavy!

A few frontal shots:

The hat really wanted its front pinches; they went into place with ease.

The edge is fascinating to me; while the binding isn't wide enough to indicate that it was a homburg, it's still got this nice binding and a stand-up edge:

Wide ribbon with frayed-edge bow:

While the sweatband is nice and supple, the age showed when I went to turn the band out; as careful as I was, the old thing just tore. Dammit. The guts:

I can't make out any serial number stamping under the sweat, unfortunately, and you'll understand and forgive me when I say I won't turn it out again.

Cheers,

Aaron, thanks for documenting the hat so well! I know the heartache of the sweatband tear or stitching pops. Sorry that happened. Great hat!!
