Echt Velour "Quality Velour Seal", 57cm, probably mid to late 1930s. Not sure what company made it but it came with another Velour from Friedrich Steinberg Hermann & Co. (STECO) Hat Factory Luckenwalde (East Germany) so they might be the source.
Steve, what a gorgeous colour!! lucky Boy!

Garrett, Great to see it arrived safely. Thank you for posting the detailed photos. Everything about it is fantastic. Also a rare late 19th Century find plus in super condition.

Sweet. Looks like 188~ on the sweatband? I am reading the United Hatters of North America was established in 1896.

The color is really great!

That's a real gem Garrett. I know there is not much summer wear in this thread, but I love this hat so and it's dressy (I wore it to my daughter's daytime summer wedding)... with some guidance from Brad Bower's pages on dating Dobbs hats by the liner imprint, likely 1922-1925.

The bowler/derby when worn by some, seem to be just perfect. Think Patrick Mcnee in The Avengers.
This is, of course, not pre 1940, but I thought that you might like to see Toshiyuki Sakata, better known as Oddjob, being measured up for that bowler, made by Lock & Co, (one of many,) that made him an overnight star.
pre-1940 oddjob.jpg

Lock & Co have produced some very famous hats for equally famous clients, I particularly like the one worn by Oscar Wilde.

Oscar Wilde's hat looks very much like a modern fedora, which is remarkable given the year that picture was likely taken.

Beautiful. One of the most elegant liner and sweatband crests imo.
Seems i recall reading Vanity was associated with the No Name Hat Company which was connected somehow to the Stetson family. Wish i could recall the details which were interesting. Maybe others can recall??
Excellent hat.
