My wife literally brought this shirt home today while I was taking pictures - got it from a thrift store for like $2 - every time I spend any money she makes me look bad lol

Full time Resistol Big cowboy 20X Conley is here. Sz7 well at least this one is perfect!!!! Wiped the leather sweatband & conditioned.
Hat is like new & not cheap but was 30% of the new retail cost.

I'm happy, wow & looks pretty good for a big 4 1/2 in brim hat. Least it will keep the sun away. Today I had a old wide brim ladies straw on & got slight sun burn on my face in 95 degrees watering the garden. I put on some Aloe Vera & my skin just soaked up the red. Phew, that's the Italian blood in me.

Your wife is a smart woman & saves money so you can buy a nice hat. $2 is really quite a steal. Goodwill charges $6 for shirts unless they are there a month & then they are half price. Shirts are plentiful but the chances of finding a Panama Bespoke handmade hat in your size at the thrift is like winning the lottery.

Every so often you unexpectedly find one of your Grail hats. I just received this Hückel Superior in today. Behind the hatband was the ad below, attached, folded to resize the hat. Per @mayserwegener , as I had hoped, it's a pre-war JHS. This would be the mass-produced hat most frequently worn by the Jewish community throughout pre-war Europe (I think most may have been locally made by hatmakers in it near the communities). Before Borsalino gained its popularity, post-war, in the States. This was THE Jewish black hat for non-rabbinical members of the community (the rabbis wore taller crowned "uphats" or homburgs).

I have such a backlog to share but I just sent some pics of these to a hat buddy and figured I'd post em. Both came with cattlemen creases and I'm leaving em that way for now.

Up first a Knox long hair from the 30s (at least that's what I think based on the inventory tag and styling). 2 3/8" cavanagh edge brim.

Here's the Borsalino. This one came with a kind of interesting crease, it was a cattlemen type crease but it was wider in the front than in the back. I thought maybe it just got knocked out of shape, but now I'm wondering if that's a variation of the cattlemen crease that I just don't know about... although it seems strange it would taper towards the back and not the front, which is why I thought maybe it wasn't supposed to be that way.

Long before the "cattleman" crease was the "Alpine" (ans often referred as a "Banker") and it was a common Fedora crease.

For a Borsalino, that's the more likely crease, I'd think.

Dig. I'm pretty sure I'd seen discussion of the alpine crease before (maybe even from you @M Hatman ) but I guess I associated it more with tyrolean hats.

I guess I need to do some more obsessive research about creases (although that's one area where I have found it harder to dig up good info here). But off the top of your head, what would distinguish an alpine/banker crease (and is a banker crease the same as an alpine?) from a cattlemen crease, or is it just the use case of the hat i.e. a dress fedora would be an alpine/banker and a western would be a cattlemen?

I do feel like I have seen quite a few dress hats creased like that in movies from the 30s and had wondered about it. Like the predominant style of the 30s was a center dent with pinches or side dents and in the 40s it became more of a teardrop/c crown style with a defined pinch in front. Am I correct in this perception?
