Borsalino Toledo end '60's, early '70's came in, again in a plastic bag, why??? Littlebit of steam and it turned out to be a very nice hat. Great color, good proportions. It needs a littlebit of a stretch to fit completely well. So it's on the hatstretcher now.

With a Borsalino like that, the answer is "because it can."

I just had a gentleman walk into my office back in Florida and said he knew I wanted to purchase his hat. I didn't know him, but he told my employee that we knew someone in common. He dropped off the hat below and said I could pay him when I returned to the country. Crazy story.

Anyway, I was sent photos and was immediately intrigued and made the deal. A Rockel Exquisit, black fedora with a shark gill back bow. It seems to be from the 80's or 90's, but the back bow is interesting to say the least. Can't wait to see it in person.

Edit: I remember now! I corresponded with an Etsy seller from Bulgaria who, when I expressed an interest, back in February, in the hat, told me she would send it with a friend from the Clearwater/St. Pete area to save on shipping, if I could wait. She and her friend came through!

My friend Howard was one of the leads on the History Channel shoe Dig Fellas 20 years ago.
He is having a clean out and I just left his house with a box of treasures, some going to the museum I run, and some going home with me, including this tattered Knox bowler.

Václav Čekan, Revnice, Date of birth: 1879, Place of birth: Prague, Date of death: 1956, Place of death: Řevnice

He was the owner of a hat factory in Prague, which was founded in 1846 by his grandfather Václav Čekan (1811–1895) and continued to be run by his father Václav (1839–1896). The Čekans had several shops in Prague, the first one was in Vodičkova Street and the second, the most famous, down on Wenceslas Square. Čekan's factory successfully exported hats abroad, and the export of top hats to the USA was significant.

Václav Čekan's daughter Anna Čekanová was a well known dancer and her husband Otakar Kukula Jr., studied agricultural and forestry engineering in Prague and then became an employee of his father-in-law, Václav Čekan, in the family business Klobouky Čekan. He later became the director of the entire company. Anna Kukulová is listed as a co-owner of fashion factories, together with her husband, father and brother. One of them was called "Koruna", which was located right in the Koruna Palace on Wenceslas Square. In the 1930s, they made foreign business trips, including to the USA in 1935.

The only reason i bought this hat was because there was "Optimo" printed on it haha. I know it's not THE Optimo hats from Chicago and also not sure if it's Optimo hatworks from Bisbee Arizona, but the price was low, so why not. Now i own an Optimo lol. It's a decent panama hat from Ecuador, in NOS condition, so i'm not complaining :)

Back in 2016, @steur posted on the Italian Hatmakers thread about an Italian hatmaker work the unlikely name, Anderson. Today, having received a package, interestingly enough, from the Netherlands, that I ordered one month ago to Israel, I am now the proud owner of an Anderson. Soft felt, similar to Borsalino and fairly well constructed, it seems to be a fairly modern hat (80's to present). This is a Lapin Rasato (shaved rabbit) hat sold in Milan at Melegari Hat Store.
