Last one of this year, I promise (a new one wouldn't arrive in time anyway).

Mossant Bayard homburg in a grey colour called "gris africain" (african grey). Size 57 with the brim at a generous 6,5cm and the crown at 10,5cm at the center dent. It didn't want side pinches. Great hand to the felt and another one on the pile of classic coloured homburgs (I think I'm at about 30 of these), but the price was just too good and it came with the original box. Picture of that in the French hats thread.

Its a TWO hat day here in East Texas! number one is a cute little Imperial Ultimate finish Key Club Stetson in a dark navy blue. 2" brim and 4-1/2" crown. ( and its a long oval!) Really nice soft feel to the felt. Brim snaps up and down nicely. A bit dirty but Im betting it will brush and steam out just fine. It was padded well but it was also packed with loose styrofoam packing peanuts (arrrrgh!) Ill be finding those things on the dining room floor for a week or so... Oh well... hat got here in good shape. Ill get some leather conditioner on the sweatband today and maybe pull the liner out for a woolite bath. Ive never been thrilled at some of the bulky macrame looking bands, so this one will be getting some navy grosgrain at some point. Should be a good little windy day coffee hat

Hat number two is the one Ive really been looking forward to... An older dark brown Stetson Number 1 Quality also in a long oval. A bit dirty, but felt is in extra nice condition. Nice firm, thin, dense felt with a brim that snaps up and down nicely all the way around. Bound 3" brim and 5-1/2" crown. No liner, but the sweatband is intact. Will get some leather conditioner on it today. No tags visible inside so its a bit of a mystery as to age. Im a bit Leary of folding the sweat out till I get some conditioner on it, so Ill wait to go tag hunting inside till ive safely softened the leather a bit. Think Ive actually got a bronzish/ gold liner somewhere in a box that would look nice. If not, white satin will look nice too. Came in with a crease that almost rides my head, ( kind of a real deep cattlemans crease that goes down the sides of the crown) but it pops out nicely to an open crown with no funky lines. A little bit of steaming and I should have some options for shaping. Ill be working this back to open crown before I decide the final shape. Who knows, I may just leave it the way it is. Hat band ribbon is a touch crusty lookng, but it adds some character... MAYBE ill remove it for a woolite bath, but thats not for this week. ( I want too much to wear it out soon lol). It once had some feathers stuck in so Ill pick out the nub thats left and see what Ive got in my goodie box.

I love two hat days! Thrilled with this one. Mr Bear thinks it smells interesting too

Just an interesting little tidbit that might be of use to someone.... the #1 came in with a spacer under the sweatband.... when I pulled it out, it was a piece of 1" oil lamp wick... I had never thought about using that as a hat reducer ... nice simple woven cotton material that could be steam ironed a bit flatter if needed.

I guess I have the first post here in 2026. I present a new-to-me, rather old, Vimenet tuxedo hat. Henry R. Paul, a Chicago hatter, seems to have been active in Chicago in the 1910's. I have not found any ads or reference to the store beyond that. Somewhat famously, Vimenet, a Jewish-owned, Belgian hat company, did not survive WWII. With the bow style, I think I'm leaving toward the earlier estimation.

The hat is not in perfect condition, although the satin lining is intact, it is torn in a couple of places. The sweatband is satin itself and has come apart from the rest of the lining in some places.

Not sure it can be repaired easily, but it is a very easily collectable piece and I'm glad to have it, as is.

Thanks!
I saw you where on the Gannon kick lately. Super hats also. I wore my Gannon yesterday during a evening walk!
I just noticed where I made a typo. It was supposed say that I haven't seen "your" Gannon in a while. But I think you figured that out. Glad it got some head time yesterday!

Latest arrivals for the collection in December 2025.
Photographed in order of arrival, here are the hats I purchased, even though they weren't my size, but were interesting or unusual enough to satisfy my curiosity :)
Marron NAGY 5.jpg

These is the first of two hats made in Austria, which in itself piqued my curiosity.
Marron NAGY 7.jpg
Furthermore, they were made by a craftsman, so the seller said.
They were produced by Nagy - Vienna, I presume, around the same time.
Marron NAGY Interno 1.jpg
This one is marked "Standard" on the lining, with no other indication.
The felt is of excellent quality, but it has too shellac for my taste.
Marron NAGY 8.jpg
The color is a brown tending towards warm, with well-made finishes and proportions that lead me to believe they were made in the 1950s/60s.
Marron NAGY 2.jpg
These are the measurements: the brims, trimmed with a matching ribbon, are 6 cm high. The ribbon, matching the felt, is 3.5 cm high, and the lowest part of the crown is 10.5 cm.
Marron NAGY 3.jpg

A classic of the period. Size 57.

Its brother is a different twin.
Grigio Wien 2.jpg

Also produced by Nagy - Wien in the same era.
Grigio Wien Interno 1.jpg
The lining of this one bears all the brand's inscriptions and also has what I assume is the shop where it was sold: Gloria - Wien.
There is a paper label under the sweatband with the information in numerical codes and the size 57 cm.
Grigio Wien 4.jpg
The hat is completely different from its brother. The felt is of excellent quality, soft and very malleable.
The color is a medium gray with a two-tone gray and black band.
Grigio Wien 5.jpg
Very trendy for the period, with well-made finishes and proportions that lead me to believe they are products from the 1950s/1960s.
Grigio Wien 8.jpg
These are the measurements: the brim, trimmed with a matching ribbon, is 6 cm high. The two-tone, horizontally pleated ribbon, is 2.5 cm high and the lowest part of the crown is 10.5 cm.
Grigio Wien 7.jpg

A rather unusual hat for the period.
