Post New Hats Here!

[mayserwegener]

Extra indeed!
And thanks as always for the historic context you've included. I always look forward to your posts.

Rollin, Thanks! I was a bit saddened when I read that the famous department store "Grand Magasins Jelmoli S. A. Zürich" had closed very recently.

Steve, I am obsessed with paper labels. Thanks again!

That's why I hoped you would be able to enlighten me after all these years of having put this Rousselet aside

Now we know it was Rockel, at some point, who took over the Rousselet name.

[The Hatted Professor]

1910s Stetson Derby, estimated based on the LOT number. 5 ¾” crown, the tallest one I have, and the oldest one I have in my size. The bow has frayed ends on both sides and is not tacked down as usual. Vented crown. Interesting that the reorder number is also stamped on the sweatband.

Great find, Brad. In excellent condition too. English manufacturer Battersby also didn't tack the bow ends down.

Great find, Dave. Bon Ton Ivy, too. Congrats!

This one was a bit of a shot in the dark (especially in terms of size):
It's definitely a hit, but unfortunately turns out to be too small...

Fléchet in chocolate brown (the photos of the inside show it best);
Everything about this hat screams 1930s to me: shape, sweat and stitching,
the crown patch names the 1900 silver medal and exposition of 1931...
size 56; open crown 14 cm (dented 10 cm); brim 5 cm; band 4 cm
The condition is very good except for a few tiny traces of age.
I'm really annoyed that it doesn't fit, because I think it's perfectly proportioned...

The hat was sold in Cholet (Dép. Maine-et-Loire):
Unfortunately, not much can be found about the shop, except that the owner
was Ch(arles) Perrault - and apparently also sold very high-quality top hats

There is also a hatbox for sale in the bay right now:

But here is the hat...

There's no label except the size label:

That's a nice looking Fléchet Matt!
Maybe Stefan @steur is interested in it? He has size 56.

Definitely a cool find, Matt. Nice vintage look to the hat. I'm trying to keep my HAS under control though.

Mayser "Spezial" "Homburg", 59 cm, possibly late 1950s. Made for well known hat store "Carl Kellner Hamburg". Great Black Felt that easily dry creases. Also as noted a on the paper label a "Homburg" Form.

Open Crown

Great find, Steve.

The felt looks very soft and supple. Meyser at their best.

Steve, Thank you! It's a nice example.

I bought this panamahat for 10 euro's as a size 62, but it turned out to be exactly my size! Miracles still happen

You win some, you lose some. What could go wrong with a Hückel velours, so worth a shot, right? Well....

Hückel fedora (I guess) in green (o no). Size 57 with the stingiest of raw edge brims at 4cm and a tapered crown at 11 cm at the center dent. Very much a trachten/tyrolean styling. Fun for those looking for an oktoberfest hat or something for St. Patrick's day, but for me its only redeeming quality is the felt, which is stellar. With a huge amount of relief I can say this one is too big for me.

[steur]

Same previous owner and retailer.
Mossant pur lièvre fedora in a grey colour called "plomb" (lead). Also a size 57 with the overwelt brim at 4,5cm and the crown at 10,5cm at the center dent. Superb lightweight heather felt at only 85 grams and a fantastic soft hand. Not sure about the styling though.

[steur]

Very different and bought only for resale.
Meddens top hat. Size 60 (7 1/2 American). Bound brim at 5cm and the crown at 14cm. Plenty of top hats to be found around these parts, but rarely one in a large size.

This week I commented on a black homburg that one cannot have enough of them. Well, practice what you preach, so number 32 is added to the collection. Several points of attraction for this one.
Fléchet homburg for Gérard Sools in black. Size 57 with the bound brim at 5,5cm an the crown at 11cm at the center dent. Sweatband made of "cuir ragondin" or nutria leather for the English speakers. Didn't know that was a thing, but here we are, Likely the felt is nutria too, but can't confirm that as the hat has no label inside. Looks like an early one, probably forties or early fifties. Weighs 152 grams.

Stefan, Great find! This is a real beauty!

[mayserwegener]

Mayser "Superbe", 60 cm possibly mid 1950s. This is a really great looking Camber form. The light Brown Felt is of high quality and pliable. Very thin Over Welt Brim with a Mid Width Band / Bow + Wind Cord. Also works great Snapped Brim.

Open Crown

Some really nice finds, Stefan. The Fléchet sold at Sools is a great find.

Seems like quality hats are still out there somewhere.
