I've been wearing an inexpensive vented hat I picked up in Australia about ten years ago. Almost lost it when my waders took me down stream while fly fishing in New Zealand two weeks ago. My daughter bought me an original Hills Hats oilskin hat (Style 247) made in New Zealand for the holiday. (https://hillshats.co.nz/) Waterproof, stylish, lined, and should last for years. This will be my 'go to' for the cooler, rainy months ahead.

Here is a Royal Deluxe Viscount that I recently picked up. It has an interesting style with a back bow and 1/2” above and 1/4” below brim binding.

The Viscount appears to be a fairly rare model — Eric @Short Balding Guy has a beautiful one that he features occasionally on WHAYWT.

The Stetson Viscount was made from at least as early as 1955 and until at least 1958 and was Named for Trans-Canada Air Lines new Vickers Viscount airliner

Borsalino Homburg - Midnight Blue
4 7/8 Crown as shaped - About 5 1/2 Open
2 1/4 brim to the curl - 2 3/4 to edge
1 5/8 blue grosgrain ribbon with matching binding

Had a second chance to add this dark blue (Cobalto) Borsalino homburg after forgetting to bid on its first go round and fortunately was able to bring it home. Upon arrival I was immediately taken back by how soft, delicate and light weight it was. I haven’t handled an homburg with felt this thin and light weight… almost like that of the Borsalino Featherweight fedoras. Shockingly light. I haven’t had the chance to weigh it as my postal scale crapped out but I’d imagine this is among my lightest of hats. Definitely the lightest homburg I own.

This thing was rather filthy and required very heavy brushing as well as significant tape Rolling to remove the years and years of dirt and dust. But after that and a quick steam it really came to life revealing its deep dark Cobalto felt. I couldn’t make out the name of the ribbon color on the 50s era Borsalino manufacturing tag.. but it is a very similar color blue to the felt. The ribbon still has its basting threads in place. Really glad I did not make the mistake of letting this one sail on by for a second time!

Superb find, Joe. The ribbon is in the colour of the felt, so it isn't named. The model name is Gulaela, the most common of the homburg models. It could well be that this was a coffin box hat. Borsalino did ship homburgs that way too. The light weight and the wrinkling that can be seen in the sweatband point in that direction. No way to be sure though.
I said I didn't want to trade anymore, but I'd happily make an exception for this one!

Thank you Stefan. I appreciate the clarification on the model name. It had crossed my mind too about originally being a coffin box hat considering its delicate nature. I know that the felt designations can be a bit of hyperbole but for the record this one is listed on the liner as Qualtiá Suprema. One thing I noticed while giving this a heavy working over with the tape roller… The felt even on the brim curl is soft enough you can easily snap the brim down in a sort of fedora style… something I wouldn’t even want to try on my other homburgs… however clearly the flange is so significant it is obviously meant to be shaped homburg style.
