I found this one thrifting. The textured crown caught my eye, and the brand was one I've never heard of. Probably wool, maybe a blend.

Open crown is about 5 1/4 inches, the brim 1 7/8 inches. 135 grams.
No tags that I could see probing underneath the stitched in liner. Looks greener in natural light.
I'm guessing 60s.if anyone has any info about this maker, please share!

Brim = 2 1/2 inch brim with bound edge
Crown = 4 1/4 inches at the pinch

Ribbon = 5/8" grosgrain ribbon

Silk Lining
Made in USA
Felt is quite soft and subtle.
No moth damage and sweatband is in supple condition with no fear of cracking, No odors, no smoke smell, no moth or insect bites, slight discoloration in back that can only be noticed when light is shining on it, good vintage condition.

Nice catch, John. The quality in their later hats was still there, but the models were not as stylish as their earlier output.

A black Borsalino Gran Lusso from 1983 sold in Düsseldorf Germany. The felt was much better than i expected, very soft and you can shape it without any steam. Nice detail: a windcord

Next is a Royal Stetson De Luxe St Regis in a mid tone gray.

2 1/4" brim plus the 1/2" bound curl and a 6" crown.

And lastly is a Dobbs Gay Prince. Not sure how I feel about this hat yet. The color is different for me. I don't mind the style. I like my Wormser Gay Cavalier. The Wormser has a much thicker and stiffer felt to it.

What's not to like? If you can get along with the Gay Prince style this is a no brainer. Lovely rust colour on it.

Picked up a series of hats this week. Taking a shot at unknown brand hats with poor seller pictures is a bit like diggin for gold; you hope it pans out but you could end up with just mud. These first two I thought were just mud. Let's see them first.

Rey Velour Veritable fedora in black. Size is a bit of a mystery, as is the manufacturer. Pretty sure this is not the original sweatband, as it is closer to a size 54 than to the 58 size label on the inside of the felt. Raw edge brim at 6,5cm and the impressive crown at 12cm at the center dent. This hat is old, I'm guessing twenties, and hasn't been kept very well. The felt was rough and hadn't been brushed in decades and it wasn't a Hückel to begin with. I thought it was all mud, but I set to brushing, steaming, brushing and brushing again and it turns out it isn't completely beyond redemption. It can (and will) be made into at least a wearable hat.

Of the two I thought were just mud, this turned out the better one and is there maybe a glimmer I see there?

Garcia fedora in black velour. No label inside the hat but with a little nudge on the stretcher this fits me, so let's say a size 56. Again it is not the original sweatband in this hat as can be seen by the crude stitching work. Raw edge brim with a nice curl at 7,5cm and the impressive crown at 11cm at the center dent. This hat is equally old, again I'm guessing twenties, and hasn't been looked after. This one responded better to the work I put in and came out as a very wearable hat with a kind of western vibe to it. So not completely mud after all.

The quite attractive curl of the brim shows better on the pic below.

Well done for bringing that one into the fold, Stefan. A lot of second or third tier hats are definitely worth saving.

Sometimes you know you have gold beforehand though.
Panizza Marca Oro fedora in a brown colour called Malta. Size 56 with the raw edge brim at 6,5cm and the crown at 11cm at the center dent. Wonderful almost chamois like finish to the felt and it weighs in at 105 grams. Gold!

My wife and I have been living in our 500 sf cabin for over a year now. My hats take up the majority of my closet and then some spilled out and others under the bed. Luckily we're planning to build a main house this summer where I'll have more hat space

A no brainer as the last one of this mini haul.
Borsalino Celesca in a grey called Lupo (wolf). Size 58 with the raw edge brim at 7cm and the crown at 10,5cm at the center dent. The pictures don't capture the colour exactly (they were shot directly as jpg). I may have to try again. Lovely hand to the very soft felt. All the Borsalino quality is there. Too bad it isn't my size.

I got to the point only buying a few hats a year I have too many. Gotta get a new straw for summer (every spring!!) so GF and I went to the stetson hat factory in Garland TX. to pick up a couple them best hats ever, Stetsons.

This one may not be as stylish as ones from years past, but it is far, far better than what is on their website now. Whoever is designing those should be slapped with a rancid prosciutto.

I saw Rancid Prosciutto open for the Smiths in 1986. They still had their original lead singer then.

I picked this resistol up on facebook marketplace, something I've never done before. It was $40 and a very nice deal for the hat and original box. I'm guessing it's from the 1950's, so correct me if I'm wrong. Not sure what the style is, although I have seen a Plains marked hat that had the same dimensions, although it was from a later year... brim is 3", crown as creased is 4.5" best as I can measure and gold words are indented. The felt is as soft as butter, with only a thumbprint sized minor stain inside one of the creases. I'm not sure why she had it listed as white, although it did seem a lot lighter in her photo which is the one without a crease, very glad I asked her for a photo of the liner. The best part is that it fits like a glove, the color isn't as dark as it appears in my photo, it's a lighter shade of grey with hints of green in the sunlight.
