Stetson Musketeer - Champagne
4 5/8 crown as shaped - about 5 1/2 open
1 5/8 Duo-Tone Grosgrain Ribbon (Champagne/Maroon)
2 3/4 Brim with 1/8 Champagne binding and triple stitching
I am very grateful to @BobHufford that he reached out and offered this Stetson Musketeer to me. I have another one of these with the light colored liner and it was cool to get one with the maroon liner tip. For some reason I did not realize this one was in a different colored felt. The other ones I have seen including mine have been a very light blue grey felt with a silver/maroon duo ribbon. Possibly I may have seen a slightly darker grey version. I think that left me to assume the yellow tones I saw in the photos was just lighting. In fact this Musketeer is an entirely different color scheme with a beautiful champagne colored felt along with a champagne and maroon duo tone ribbon. The Musketeer styling is completed with the 2 3/4 brim bound in matching grosgrain along with three rows of decorative stitching.
The Stetson Musketeer was a model named only via magazine advertisements in 1950 the name does not appear anywhere on the hats themselves. Their unique styling though makes them easy to identify.
Thanks so much to Bob for keeping me in mind for this one. I am so happy to have this great example in my collection. It is truly one of those hats I find myself taking off to admire.

Funny how our color perception can be tinted by our own expectations.. Time for a side by side! That's the color mine is (only more soiled). I thought your other one was this color scheme, too.
I wonder what that means lol …. It doesn’t look far off the musketeer style imhoThe Panizza is excellent. This Paul Ventress looks quite the hat for modern times
Not sure which part you were referring. If you meant what I said about the PV.… It was a compliment on its build quality and styling compared to a lot of what you might find today.I wonder what that means lol …. It doesn’t look far off the musketeer style imho
That hat is absolutely beautiful!!! Congrats, I would be proud to own that.View attachment 557867

And also my apologies… I had mistakenly thought both hats were posted by Stefan so that was why I responded in tandem and I can see the confusion. Your new hat is very nice looking and appears well made. congratulations and enjoy it! I appreciate you sharing it with us here on the lounge... we will look forward to some on head shots Soon.I wonder what that means lol …. It doesn’t look far off the musketeer style imho
John Lofgren Monkey Boots Shinki Horsebuttt - $1,136 The classic monkey boot silhouette in an incredibly rich Shinki russet horse leather.
Grant Stone Diesel Boot Dark Olive Chromexcel - $395 Goodyear welted, Horween Chromexcel, classic good looks.
Schott 568 Vandals Jacket - $1,250 The classic Perfecto motorcycle jacket, in a very special limited-edition Schott double rider style. Thanks Joe. It must have been a limited run as I haven’t been able to find another one like it.Cool ribbon work. I’d be tempted to think it was post production... but then a look at that fancy liner tells me it may have been all original.
Wow, amazing condition! I have a soiled one in 7 1/8 and it is great to see what a new one looks like!View attachment 557867

Thank you Bill. So yours is in this color scheme as well? If so I am thinking the maroon liner ones my be the tan/champagne felt and the light colored liners in the light blue grey Felt.Wow, amazing condition! I have a soiled one in 7 1/8 and it is great to see what a new one looks like!
Still a beautiful hat!Yes, I believe it is the same color scheme but mine has gotten lots of wear.

Montecristi Ecuador Panama Blank
Unfinished Panama Body in Balsa Wood Box
About 5 inch open crown (4 1/2 after shaping)
2 1/2 brim
Unfinished - no sweat or hat band
I remember years ago reading a post by a lounger who had one of these unfinished Panama hat bodies in its balsa wood shipping/storage box and the process of finishing by shaping the hat and installing a sweat and hat band. I assume these type of blanks were intended to sell to tourists and have them finished upon return home. I hadn’t come across one until now… and no risk throwing 5 bucks at this one.
The hat body was crammed into the balsa wood box instead of being rolled properly… probably not a surprise and totally fine with me. I just wanted to have some fun with it and see if I could shape it with steam. With a little bit of work.. I got it into some semblance of a hat shape.

Then with more steam and time was able to shape it fairly well. I threw on this ribbon I had laying around just to see how it would work. And even managed to run a couple errands with it.

The weave is not as tight as my finer panamas… but it is certainly a finer than others I have. I’m not good at counting weaves… but I think it may be in the 125 to 150 wsi range as I’m seeing about 12x12 ish. Maybe someone could correct me if I am wrong there.

It will need a sweat and hat band to complete. But honestly I may just roll it up and return it to its balsa box and keep it as a conversation piece as that is where it’s value is to me… being something different. We shall see.
