NOS never worn 7XCB OR mid 50s, but another like the mid 50s 7XCB OR having a plastic liner tip that I got a month ago that also has soft, hand moldable felt.
This one has an oil skin liner tip, but has the maple leaf in the sweat logo and the tell tell white, long reorder label. Was expecting to see red and orange labels.
Oh well. Larger proportions. Hand creased cattlemen’s crown. Leaving as is, except I have snapped down the brim. No steam.
Super hat box! I haven’t seen one just like it. I had one that was close, same color and style, but smaller with leather strap instead of this cool fabric strap. View attachment 488683 View attachment 488684 View attachment 488689 View attachment 488692 View attachment 488693

Nothing left to say about that one, Randall. Beautiful. That is one at the top of my Get List.

Got the 40s Knox Foxhound in yesterday and to my surprise it isn’t dark gray, as the eBay pics depicted. It’s actually a killer blue color that I hope to take better outside light photos of tomorrow. Can definitely say that, for my taste, this is the coolest fedora I own with all the best options! I feel greatly blessed to own such a hat.

The stains that were in liner came out, but the red ink of the initials someone scribed won’t come completely out.
This hat needed steam and and a bit of ironing of the brim to bring out its new, but likely original form, as it seemed to remember the shape it now is. However, it did take a bit of work.
Might be my favorite and will get plenty of head time.

You don't see that kind of brim treatment often. Very nice.

Wow that’s a beauty—congrats!

I just can't post today without following someone's outstanding hat. I'm talking about you @Randall Renshaw . :p

This was a new one for me. A Chelson. It appears to be from the 1950s, but that is just a guess based on the sweatband color. @DaveProc has ads from 1927 to 1946 in the Vintage Hat Ads from Newspapers thread, but I don't know if that covers all the range.

The lineage goes back to at least 1911 when they made straws as Charles Levy's Sons.

Note the "CLS" in both logos. Perhaps "Chelson" is a play on Charles Levy's Sons.

1920s: Note the "Exclusively Hand Made" that is also in the logo of the hat above.

The new pride and joy of my small hat collection is here. My very own unlined Stetson Playboy. It is in remarkable condition, sweat is soft and supple, and just a few small imperfections in the felt. It is the lightest most malleable felt I have ever touched, I'm pretty sure a stiff breeze will change the crease. It has the lapel cord and the single subtle stitch around the brim. Nice one! I like the unknown brands!
And we all know you have around a zillion hats that are equal to or better than anyone could post, but thanks, bro!

Interesting find! Washington, NC is just down the road from me. Not a very big place, and I don’t think that store is still around.

I will admit I have a lot of decent $15 hats, but very, very few that are super nice. I long ago learned that I can't have nice things.

Thanks. It's hard to find any pics of the store except for "post card" shots of Main Street from the same angle. I have found ads ranging from 1889 to 1941. Not sure when they went out, but I was glad to see the building still standing.

Second building on the right.

Stylepark Black/Charcoal Heather
Lightweight thin soft felt
5 3/4 Open Crown 4 3/4 as shaped
2 inch spiral stitched brim with tight tiny stitched overwelt edge
1 1/2 grosgrain ribbon

It’s time to reintroduce this Stylepark that arrived here a couple years ago missing its original unreeded sweat. I finally go around to installing a new one. I purchased this burgundy sweatband from Fern Thatcher Co. I had all best intentions of properly sewing the new sweat into place, however after managing to size the new sweat properly, my lack of patience and frustration with my sewing skills led me to go ahead and install it with double sided gorilla tape. The fit feels perfect and I wore it most of the day to let it form to my head.

The felt on this Stylepark is a super soft black heather. There is very little stiffener in the crown or the brim for that matter. But easily holds shape. The two inch brim has a very cool spiral stitching. The manufacturing tag shows the Camden, NJ Stylepark factory that was sold in 1941.. that and stylings to me points to possibly 1930s hat.

I may at some point decide to go ahead and stitch this sweat into place… but for now I’m glad to have this one up and running and happy with how it came out.

Here‘s a little brim squiggle.. you can just touch the brim with your finger and position it where you want and it stays.

I thought I had some photos of Washington, but I haven’t found them yet. Next time we are there, I will check out this building more closely. We go every now and then to get seafood from a great little hole-in-the-wall type place on the edge of town that has the best fresh seafood around.
