That’s a fine hat indeed.By complete surprise, my Kentucky Smith Safari Edition panama hat from Brent Black arrived today. The order on my Brent Black account still says processing. This is Brent's Cuenca version of the Indiana Jones hat, with the safari-style downturned rear brim.
I guess I should have expected this, since I went through the "unconventional" ordering process. I know that I have a 59 cm noggin, so I opted to not have Brent send me sized sweatbands. I ordered the 23 1/4 (59.1 cm) size, and it fits perfectly. Anyway, the hat is top quality, and I am really pleased with my order. Here are some pictures:
I ordered the hat in the cocoa color with the standard 1 1/2" Jamaica Brown ribbon. I also requested that I receive a 2 5/8" brim, and everything seems to be perfect.
The hat has a ~15 WPI count. I have a ~22 WPI Montecristi from panamahatcollection.com, and this hat is better quality. In fact, I had to shape and stiffen the brim of the Montecristi myself. This hat came with the brim pre-shaped.
This hat came with the standard leather sweatband.
Overall, I am extremely pleased with the hat, and will consider ordering from Brent Black in the future. I placed this order on Wednesday, April 7th. It is now April 19th, so I would consider this record time for receiving a custom hat.
Quite nice RandyEnjoying mild weather here in Central Texas in my new Spring Aire Ultralite from Wolfbrae Custom Hatters. Notice the vented sides and top. This is one really "cool" hat!

Gracias Compadre!Charley Waite's hat has long been a favorite of mine. Nice work.
That is one cool looking summer hat, Randy. Very elegant.
A summer hat was my target, Steve. Great toppers you've picked up recently.
Just arrived and unboxed, a new Akubra Bowler.

This is the brother, of the same size, with which the Thibet arrived from France. To tell you that for both of them I would like them to be my size is superfluous
Flechet Premiere Marque in velour size 56, the color is black
The manufacturer's brand is the old one, over the years it will change always keeping the red color
Here it is in the version before the Second World War and certainly the hat was made after 1931 because the lining specifies a manufacturer's award won in that year.
Brand and hat shop were embossed in gold on the sweatband as its brother Thibet
Another curiosity are the labels under the sweatband, both are old style and the price was FF185
The velvet is fantastic and well preserved, the moths have limited themselves to a few bites under the brims.
The measurements are as follows: the raw brims are at 5. cm and the open crown is at 13.5 cm. the ribbon is 4 cm.
I tell myself every time to let go of the hats out of my size, then when they arrive I get excited to see finds from a world that has almost completely disappeared
Great look to the hat. I will give a warning. If you live in a dry climate it can wreak havoc on snake skin. In Alberta I have seen more than one pair of snake skin boots flake and get ruined by drying out. But it is a great looking hat and really suits you.View attachment 328378 Akubra Woomera in Santone Fawn that I gave the Charley Waite treatment with an aftermarket leather and snakeskin hatband.
