More in the Borsalino Brotherhood.

Here is the "little" brother of Brent's hat:
Borsalino Homburg for the German market
Although again a black Homburg, but beautiful felt.
Size 6 punti, height open crown 14 cm, width brim 6 cm
I just couldn't pass by that one...

Leaving it would be a felony! Wouldn't want to face criminal charges. I have several of these Borsalino black homburgs, but I'd likely snap up the next one in an instant.

The second of the three French hats that arrived this week. This one from a more well known hatter, Gelot. As Stefan pointed out in his very fair description of it, wonderful felt but not Gelot's best finishing. Nevertheless, a very stylish Fedora imo.

I was especially drawn to the shape of this one. It's classic film noir look appealed to me immensely.

I'm guessing 40s, possibly pre WWII. It has the usual Gelot tip wording that they were "hatter to his majesty King Edward VII". Son of Queen Victoria and king from after her death in 1901 to 1910. Be interesting to know how long they kept that claim on their tips.

Looks good on you, Steve. In its styling and proportions quite different from the later French hats. I think 40s could well be the era, influenced likely by the American hats of the time.

Well, there is some expectation about my finds it seems. As luck would have it, this one fits the bill.
I thought this one was listed on two different sites, but it appears it was the same hat sold by two different sellers at the same price. What are the odds? May have bought the wrong one, because this one isn't my size.
Motsch Fils Castor Naturel in black. Size 58 (even though listed as a size 57) with the overwelt brim at 6cm and the crown at 10cm at the center dent. This one appears to have been made by Motsch themselves. In their later period they seem to have outsourced their hats to various makers. The hand of hte beaver felt is wonderful and the finishes are spot on. Might still go for the other one.

Here you are @Steve1857, some pictures from the inside. It's a petty that those european stetsons don't have leather sweatbands inside. I don't know why that is.

By complete surprise, my Kentucky Smith Safari Edition panama hat from Brent Black arrived today. The order on my Brent Black account still says processing. This is Brent's Cuenca version of the Indiana Jones hat, with the safari-style downturned rear brim.

I guess I should have expected this, since I went through the "unconventional" ordering process. I know that I have a 59 cm noggin, so I opted to not have Brent send me sized sweatbands. I ordered the 23 1/4 (59.1 cm) size, and it fits perfectly. Anyway, the hat is top quality, and I am really pleased with my order. Here are some pictures:

I ordered the hat in the cocoa color with the standard 1 1/2" Jamaica Brown ribbon. I also requested that I receive a 2 5/8" brim, and everything seems to be perfect.

The hat has a ~15 WPI count. I have a ~22 WPI Montecristi from panamahatcollection.com, and this hat is better quality. In fact, I had to shape and stiffen the brim of the Montecristi myself. This hat came with the brim pre-shaped.

This hat came with the standard leather sweatband.

Overall, I am extremely pleased with the hat, and will consider ordering from Brent Black in the future. I placed this order on Wednesday, April 7th. It is now April 19th, so I would consider this record time for receiving a custom hat.
