Something other than French hats came in at the same time. When he found it, Jonathan @TheOldFashioned, bless him, thought of me. We worked something out and I now owe thanks for two of my three Gorasgus to him. Thanks, Jonathan!

Borsalino Gorasgu in palladio colour. Size 56 with the bound brim at 7cm and the crown at 11cm at the center dent. More lightweight than the other two at just 95 grams. Wonderful obedient felt that takes on any shape without steam. A marvel.

All your hats are great, but this Borsalino is breathtaking; it checks all the boxes for me.

Another renowned French hatter is Gelot, who was located on Place Vendome in Paris where the jet set would go to shop (and still do).
Gelot in black. Size 57 (or maybe 56?) with the overwelt brim at 6cm and the crown at 10cm at the center dent. Very soft felt, almost floppy, with a lovely hand to it. No labels inside the hat. What I think is remarkable is that the sweatband is a rather plain affair with no imprints or whatever. A bit run of the mill it seems for such a high end hatter. Could be a replacement, but the other one (yes, there's another one coming) has the same sweatband.

You don't see Gelot hats very often and all of a sudden two turn up from the Place Vendome, Paris shop.
Gelot in grey. Size 57 with the raw edge brim at 6,5cm and the crown at 10,5cm at the center dent. Very soft felt but not in the same way as the black one. Also a lovely hand to it. No labels inside the hat. The sweatband is the same rather plain affair with no imprints or whatever. The brim flange in the back is substantial with a very deep cup.
The hat shows a few signs of its age unfortunately, but let's call it character.

East sea trading has been revived and the first deal was a hat exchange between Oslo and Volendam. Not a Norwegian hat, but an American one. Thanks Panos @PanosChris !
Stetson 3X beaver homburg in dark brown. Size 7 (56) with the brim at 6cm and the crown 11cm at the center dent. Usually these brown homburgs have a lighter brown colour and I have several of those. I really like this darker shade. It doesn't say St Regis on the sweatband, but the blocknumber is the same: F 296. I think this one is from the early sixties.

Back to France now. Final one.
If we start off looking at French hatters, there's no way around this picture, where they are all named. It is certain however that more than a few of these sourced their hats from several manufacturers. I still need to find myslef a Léon hat (working on it) and up until now Motsch was also missing. Here's the E. Motsch however. The E stands for Eric.

grand chapeliers.jpg

E. Motsch bowler in black. Size 56 with the brim at 5cm and the crown at around 12 cm. The felt on this hat is magnificent, on par with the Penn Craft bowler that Stetson used to introduce that hat to the European market. The hat is also quite heavy at 190 grams. The Angleterre bowler and the Woodrow bowler weigh less than half that. Looking at the sweatband it is not intended as a riding bowler though (those are usually heavier). Unusual is that the brim curl opens up at the front and back of the hat instead of remaning curled inwards. It came in it original box as well. Almost certainly a pre-war hat.

An excellent trio today, Stefan, and they will compliment any man who wears them.

Another one that came in from Oslo is this one. Filled a gap in my collection that was there to fill.
Stetson 3X beaver Open Road in silverbelly. You know these hats better than I do. Not as stiff as I had expected and I really like the shallow brim flange.

Yes, you have given us a preview of a whole host of wonderful hats this week! You need to watch out, you may have to invest in more hat storage space soon!

Thanks you, Randy. You may want to look further back though. It was more than a trio and some hats get very sensitive about not getting enough attention;)

Looks to have been a very good week indeed, Stefan. The Gorasgu is just one of many great hats you have treated us to the past several days. Wear it in good health and thank you for the Wegener in exchange!

The latest haul displayed by Stefan @steur has been pretty spectacular! I would not worry about his hat storage. When you zoom out from that brick wall he takes photos next to you can see the full size of his hat warehouse.

That makes sense. I found a picture of his shipping and receiving department.

Thanks, Jonathan. Always nice when the various shipments come in at the same time. Can't resist the unboxing frenzy!

:D Small correction though: most of it is taken by my wife's shoes!

And 800 square feet of living space.
We may need to shrink that down a bit...

That makes sense. I found a picture of his shipping and receiving department.

It might be cliche: "felt that molds like clay" .. but it's so true here .. easily among the nicest felt I've ever laid hands on .. just wonderful. Takes any crease without steam, period. It'd had already been bashed like this so I left alone. "Kitten Finish", which I don't think I've seen on a Resistol western before, very similar to finish on a beautiful 50s Stetson 5x I have.
