Post New Hats Here!

[Rmccamey]

Another grail hat. Fantastic, sir!

Got a tip, took a trip, up I 65 N a ways. Where I met a man, with hat in hand, such as I haven’t held in my days. I gave him cash, and left in a flash, lest he realize what he’d just given away. From TN to AL, this ones here to stay.

Actually, this one came from a really nice guy I met in Franklin, TN who is prepping for a move back to MA in August.

My new hat.

This is my ?¢‚Ǩ?ìHavana?¢‚Ǩ? styled Montecristi from Optimo Hats. I got it as part of their annual ?¢‚Ǩ?ìFino Club?¢‚Ǩ? Montecristi acquisitions. It?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s the finest Montecristi hat that I own and I got it at a great price (especially considering how fine the detailing is). Enjoy

Nice lid!

Man what a beautiful hat! Congrats!

Thanks, Rick. Though the seller had texted me measurements I was sweating ******s the whole drive about the fit but I knew who to call if it came up small. Thankfully, this guy knew how to measure.

Sweet Sweet find!!!!!!! Good get!!!!

Thank you, Mark.

Absolutely mint & beautiful, BB! And you got the Stetson Man too.

Thanks, HJ, I am very happy to have this one and the Stetson man is quite the Bonus. The first I’ve run across and I didn’t realize they were sterling.

A thing of beauty. Tremendous find. And the bad a$$ Stetson man pin!

Thanks, Joe. The seller’s name was Joe as well.

Killer! Congrats Greg!

Thanks, Bob, for the tip and the kind words.

Greg, just saw this this morning. Great job and good pick up. With your track record on some of these things, I might need to retain your services as Acquisition Manager for the Fruno Hat Collection.

Thanks, Jim. I’ve been fortunate with a few 7X CB finds but I can take no credit for this one. All that goes to @BobHufford.

Dude might be the biggest hat pimp on here, LOL.

Dobbs Westward Silverbelly

Dobbs Westward Silverbelly
4 7/8 crown as shaped - about 5 1/2 open
3/8 TAR grosgrain ribbon
2 1/2 brim with 1/8 matching grosgrain binding
Wind trolley

This Dobbs Westward open road clone came to me off a hot tip from @Frunobulax After some investigation with @M Hatman we have come to a 1960s estimate for age and the manufacturing tag supports this finding. This is one really nice and well made hat. The very light tan silverbelly felt does very much have the feel of the late 50s early 60s. A bit thicker and more dense... but still holds a shape real well and was a wonderful hand to it. There were a few dirty spots on the felt I was mostly able to scuff out upon arrival. A tiny bit of steam will smooth out the couple small divots in the back of the crown. That is about it.. really nice hat. This one I think will grow on me fast. It reminds me a lot of a late 60s Adam Mainliner I have. Will have to compare them soon.

Bought Hückel in secondhand store. But brim is too narrow to me.

c. 1950 Resistol Sky Fleet. The felt is incredibly soft and pliable. More so than my late 50s Krushable and Christy's Rollaway.

I am suspecting the hat had some work done at one time as it has a size label from Quality Hat Works 1811 Grand Ave Kansas City, they were a hat renovator owned by Ezra Campbell

If it was renovated they did a great job. The two toned ribbon is really something special.

I am very impressed by it.

It looks, by the tag, that it may have been reblocked. The light felt seems to crease easily. It came all smooshed in the box and I have spent over an hour steaming it and it still has some creasing.

Today 1811 Grand would be part of the Green Lady Lounge, a jazz club & part of the Power & Light Entertainment District centered around the Sprint Center.

Smithbilt sugar white skinny ribbon:
I wouldn’t have considered a Smithbilt as I associate them with cheap wool hats and low quality props/souvenirs for the Calgary Stampede. This is what convinced me to try it:
1. Art Fawcett was the seller
2. Art said it was quality fur felt
3. Art assured me it would easily size up to my 7 5/8 LO
4. The original box has a 1953 post mark

[deadlyhandsome]

Continued:

The felt is better than my 1950s No. 1 Quality and every bit as good if not better than my 1950s 3X. 6” open crown and 4” brim.

I’ll continue to work on shaping it over the next week.
Great felt, great sweatband, and a great blocked shape to work with. Not all Smithbilts are made equal!
