I’m 0 for 2 in my latest attempts for hats outside or inside of my size range. My latest attempt, thanks to some MO enablers, one Setter, the other Retriever. I thank them both for their time and especially the effort of the Retriever to secure the hat. Probably the cleanest 3X OR I’ve seen and certainly the nicest one under my roof. The great thing about this one is the felt. Thin and dense with a fine finish. My only other 3X OR is likely a 40’s Model with an oilcloth protected LD liner and the same dimensions as this one. 2 7/8 x 5 1/2.

This hat appears to be a much more recent rendition. Most notably there are no mfg labels underside and the LD liner is spot glued. The surprising thing about this hat is the felt. It is much more dense and thin than one I would have expected from this era. Every bit the equal of my 40’s hat and perhaps better and it does have a better finish. Makes me think of a new hat made with an old blank. Just my thoughts, not a claim. A really soft dress weight OR that can be shaped with a swipe.

The 0 for 2 part is that it doesn’t fit, a bit off. Thought she wanted it but no.

Very good looking hat, Greg. Too bad it's not your size.

My first Mallory. Retriever model. I never heard of Mallory before I joined the Fedora Lounge and last week I read some old post, went to Ebay to look at vintage Mallory and found a very clean fur felt with stingy brim for $14.95 and $6.00 shipping. I thought I'll never get it with a $15 bid. I did, came today and its very clean except for needing a good brushing. Mallory made a nice hat. The wife said nice hat right away.

View attachment 208387 Received this Mallory this afternoon. It is an Aristocrat model with a thin ribbon like the one I wore today. The only difference is the color and the brim is shorter, which is why I bought it.

It came with all the original stickers and selling ads, pretty cool. View attachment 208383 View attachment 208385 View attachment 208386

I decided I wanted to test the bike on my unplowed street today after I finished shoveling the driveway today. It was kind of fun and when I got to the top of the hill I saw the bike path was plowed perfectly. So I went to my favorite vintage store. Found this

Picked this up from France. Some of my very best Borsalinos seem to come from there (they are just quite good at hiding them).
Borsalino Cocisca in Dattero colour and nutria felt. Size 57 with the raw edge brim at 5,5cm and the crown at 10cm at the center dent. The quality of the felt and the hand of it is Borsalino at its best. Lightweight too at just under 100 grams. It's a keeper (if that wasn't obvious).

A recent addition and not the first time hats seem to travel in packs. This one could be the twin to the Wegener Cornett I posted here recently; it's just a different brand, but very close in colour.
Hückel Exclusiv. Size 56 with the bound brim at 6cm and the crown 10,5cm at the center dent. The colour of the auction pics was quite a bit different (that happens a lot), but I was not disappointed. No labels underneath the sweat, which is quite common for Hückel Welheim hats. The side dents sort of accidentally happened.

Another cool find, but unfortunately not in my size.
Vanzina Extra in Amarena colour. Size 58, but it has shrunk over time, because it doesn't feel like it now. Overwelt brim at 5,5cm with decorative stitching and the crown at 10cm at the center dent. Something between a chamois and a velour finish. Wonderful felt. I don't find Vanzina all that often and this is the best one I've found yet.
