Thanks, Mike. This and the pork pie are meant to be "knock around" hats for me. You know, just something you throw on your head and don't care if it rains or blows. In fact, wearing them when it rains or blows is the whole idea!

Haven’t had much to contribute in this thread for quite awhile, but I acquired two hats this week. First, a grey Hanna Hats cap that I know will get a lot of wear, and second, a sweet little dressage topper.
The Johnny Depp Dead Man hat is one I’ve coveted for many years, and I finally realized its basically just an equestrian show hat. This one is in a beautiful dark navy with what I think is the “Melusine “ brushed finish. I’m happy about these!

Stetson Premier Stratoliner in Silverbelly

I almost sent this one back due to my ignorance and misunderstandings. A big thank you to @M Hatman for taking the time to explain the inconsistencies of Modern Stetson. And just like I was told, the felt got to feel better the longer I worked the crown while creasing it.

Posted a teaser of this one yesterday. Broadway (de Luxe). Size 57. Raw edge brim at 6cm and crown 11 cm at the pinch. I thought this one was a German production because there are many German hats with English names (I know Broadway isn't in England, but you know what I mean). It's not German, but either Belgian or French, because the label is in French. My guess would be Belgian. According to seller early fifties. It was used as a wedding hat at the time. The colour is grey, I'd say, but a warmer shade of it.

Dead Man is a fantastic modern western. Nice lid too! Good to see those long hair finishes.

Picked up this '50s Stetson 3X Open Road for $15 at a flea market. Doesn't fit me or my wife, but is from a long-time (now gone) local store, so it will be a wall hanger.

Very nice hat, and those older Resistols are fine pieces. However, because of what looks to me like a raw brim, I wouldn't call it an Open Road style hat. Is it more of a Western or dress weight?

l like the ribbon treatment on this one. The odd lineage is always a good story. Very nice hat.

Thanks! I agree. When a brim goes past 2-1/2 inches, a hat starts looking ridiculous on me! Earlier this year I bought a Stetson bush hat for a trip I was taking to the canyons of Utah. It looked so awful that I left it behind.

A lot of us start with stingy brims and move up to wider ones. What looked outrageous at the start now looks normal. We are the worst judges of what looks right on us when we move into new territory. I still like my stingy brims, but with time I'm liking the wider brims even more. I also like caps and I've been tempted to try berets. Whenever I move into something new I know I'll have to wear it for a while until it starts to look right to me. By all means keep the stingies (sic?) but give yourself time to warm up to the wider brims.

As an advantage, those who eschew brims under 2 3/8" just leave more for the rest of us and help keep the prices down.
