This is always a favorite thread, but due to size restrictions, I am lucky if I post here annually. So today is it!

I am pleased to present, just in time for the end of straw season, a new-to-me Swiss-made yeddo boater; a gift to me this week from a gentleman who was my first semi-formal teacher of photography, back when I was a freshman in high school. I was fortunate to visit him for the first time in about 30 years. Ok, so we haven't been close, but both had a ton to talk about. This relic belonged to his Uncle Samuel Chandler of St. Johnsbury, Vermont, who bought the hat in 1930. As a boy, I used to buy single carnations from Sam's son who operated the greenhouse/florist shop in our town. I needed the points with my Mom...

Thank you, John!!!

Truth be told, this hat is a bit small for my noggin, but it shall remain in the collection in case I shrink.

And since this is the new hat thread, Here is my friend John with HIS new hat, a fine private label felt gifted by a now-geriatric former student of his.... ME!

Pre-Stetson Mallory. Unreeded sweat in perfect condition, but felt has some evidence of prior insect activity. Nevertheless, I like it. In fact, it needs a steam, but even as is, this may be my new favorite hat. I know I say that a lot but I really mean it this time!
