Nice work, Phineas (wife)
Here is a new hat that I'm going to need some help with. I really don't know how to bash this one. It's a borsalino with open road dimensions with the exception of the brim - it's almost stingy and has a bunch of flange curl. The hat is a little dirty but the felt is very light and quite nice feeling. It fits me well.

What should I do with this thing? I am thinking of ironing out the brim curl and going from there. I have dry-bashed it several different ways and nothing seems to fit.

Ironing out the brim seems like a wise choice. If it doesn't work it might be due to the binding - in which case you could remove it.

In addition, perhaps install a wider crown ribbon to make it a dress fedora? PM me if want a slice of some nice vintage ribbon for free; I have several colors that will work with Borsalino's Silverbelly-type felt color.

Looks like it'd make a nice, unique porkpie.

I thought about the binding being two small and not allowing me to iron out the brim. That may be a problem. It's very generous of you to offer some ribbon - thank you kindly. I'll keep that in mind.

I did try a porkpie and it's actually quite interesting. I'll throw the porkpie back on it and take a pic - it is definitely a unique look.

Mike,I say customize it. Cut the brim off and put the crown into a big western brim hat.
or Try some water and grass seed to see if you can get that brim to grow.
Good luck with that one

Mike, A center dent and front pinches, my humble opinion ist the best for that hat!
I have a similar brim on my Borsalino, only a little wider and it works good.
If you don't like the look of an up brim Fedora, swoop the brim in the front down!

Looks like a nice Borso, Mike... the ribbon bow is a bit of an older touch... great! I think using a steam iron to lessen the curl will work fine. Start with the front and see how it looks with a flatter front brim. Once you flatten the flange it is much harder to bring it back, so go slowly and try it on as you go.

My, what seems to be a NOS, or only worn under 5 times. Penney's Marathon. It seems to be almost homburgish to me, with the brim curl. The backbow is really neat too! It also has the original box, which is torn up pretty bad (does anyone know how to repair it? Some glue & tape?) Also, the size tag fell out when I was in the process of taking pictures. Better place it somewhere safe!!

Here it is. I love this hat (note that it is a size too small, but I believe that is due to my hair not being cut yet, but that will change by next week.)

I also think it is from the early-late 50s, due to the plastic on the lining.

Just picked up this Borsalino. It's furry, super soft, almost like an actual pelt and weirdest of all look at the tag under the brim and then look at my screen name. Laureano is my real name but all my life I've been called Lauro. Is this the model name for the hat? Kind of a cool coincidence! If anyone can give me info, that would be great! Anyways, super happy with this purchase.

Awesome Marathon, splintercellsz! You can fix up the box pretty easily with some thick brown paper or thin cardboard and glue.

Lauro, you rock that Borsalino. Coincidence on the name for sure, as Borsalino used to simply make up model names. One of their fanciful creations matching your nickname is rather astounding!

Thank ya, Dan & randooch! I love the hat! I will look into repairing the box tonight. Now I have a holder for my Stetson when I am wearing the Marathon, or vice-versa!

Very nice Borsy, Lauro! Gotta' love 'em!
