Vintage Borsalino (1970/80s I'd say) from the vintage shop for a mere £12!

Was a size 58 but it has shrunk to a 57 (hence the runching of the sweat) so it fits perfectly for me!

This Open Road was my first successful purchase from the bay.

This is what it looked like straight out of the box.

This is what it looks like now. I had my local hat shop block it open and re-flange the brim. Then I recreased the hat.

This Stetson Open Road looks exactly the same as another Open Road that I have, same liner, same felt quality designation, and I believe about the same vintage, but the difference in the feel of the felt is dramatic. The other hat has felt that is stiff with the brim feeling like cardboard. Although you can tell this is not a high quality hat, it feels good and will serve as an everyday hat.

3 more hats from Sools Paris along with this one. They are so dirty and moth eaten they probably should have been burned. I may vacuum and photograph for informational diversion.

Pardon the CFL bulbs.

Photos are after much vacuuming and cleaning the sweatband with flax soap. Moths had to build high-rises with a silky transportation network...

Robert, Super finds! The Delion Homburg has a great look to it. The Cambiaghi (new one to me) is really cool with the spiral stitiching. Also like how it has more taper side to side vs. front to back with center crease (at least that is how it appears).

Here is my light rust-colored Borsalino fedora: ‘kitten finish’ beaver felt, with an overwelt brim edge. As close to orange as a serious fedora can get.

What, you may ask, can be worn with an orange fedora? Why, teal blue of course – preferably in gabardine or flannel. With orangey brown shoes, if you please.

Stephen Stetson hat arrived moments ago, in pretty much record shipping time.

This hat is way cooler than I even expected it to be-- homburg it ain't! It definitely has the proportions and block of a bowler. The "customized" (presumably) variations include a very soft structure and feel-- almost no stiffness whatsoever, which actually had me playing with creases for a moment, inspired by some of the well-worn and clearly creased bowlers in Hell on Wheels. But I'm leaving it open for the moment.

Also, the brim is raw curled and the ribbon is considerably wider than traditional bowlers. I haven't taken a measurement yet.

A while back on some thread I can't find anymore I said I would order the Flechet folding hat from Traclet in France.

Oy, what a mistake that was, but let me elaborate.

I ordered a beige hat. I received brown. I don't want brown. It comes with a tube to carry the hat in. Gadzooks, the tube is huge. It's 4 1/2" diameter and 10 1/2" inches long, with the lid. You might jam that into your suitcase but not into a carry-on.

The hat is brown, unlined, with a fabric sweat-band. Size at 57cm is right on. Brim size is a respectable 2 1/4" and the crown, at its tallet, is 4 3/4". It has a center dent, with a shallow raised section in the middle, with a front pinch. It is marked rabbit hair felt on the size tag, and one assumes it's 100% rabbit. The sweat is marked Flechet and made in Europe. Where in Europe is anyone's guess.

The felt feels pretty good. It's not all that smooth to the touch but it looks nice and it's fur. The hat has just enough stiffness to hold its shape, and it feels comfortable to wear.

All in all, it's a decent hat. If it's what you want, then you'll be happy with it. Since it's not what I want (wrong color!) it's going to be sold as soon as possible. What with conversion from Euro to Dollar not being all that friendly and express mail shipping, it cost me $157. So if a person were to make offers....

Pics follow.

Thanks Al! I was hoping it was more of a Lord's hat, but the crown appears to have been carefully rounded, and too low for a center crease. I don't know-- more messing around to come, I imagine!

First off - This thread should NEVER get to the second page, folks!

Second - Pre-1934 Mallory panama "optimo" in time for winter :eeek: That's right! :whip:

Great hat, Garrett! :eusa_clap
I'm not a huge fan of the optimo crease myself but if you can pull it off...

And, by the way: I love to buy my big and heavy overcoats in the summer, so I guess it's alright to buy a panama in the winter. ;)
