Yimmy that looks a lot like a Stetson "Golden Century" hat I have.

Thanks for the complements everybody! Art blew me away with his ribbon skills on this one... He was able to take my outlandish idea and turn it into reality.

Cheers,

Yimmy, it is interesting to me in that it has an overwelted brim. I have an old Akubra Titan that is overwelted. Most brims are underwelted. That makes both are hats a little unusual. +1 to DRB's comment. She's definitely a keeper. Nice Hat, too.

Open Road Twenty-Five from this auction. The two stains on the brim underside came out easily with a delicate dab of acetone and some steam and brushing brought the hat back to life in very nice condition. This is a heavy, soft felt - an appropriate OR for cold weather wear.

I'm curious. I know the 25, 100 etc designations related to the retail price of the hat. Is the current Stetson X system designed to do the same thing but with more flexibility?

Hi fmw. There are several very good threads on the quality nomenclature of vintage Stetsons - I haven't looked at the system used by current day Stetsons at all... perhaps others will comment.

She is a keeper, that's for sure. She gets as big a kick out of finding cool old hats as I do. Thanks for all the compliments and comments. Have a great day everyone!

I think the current system is to give some sense of rating by Hat Co. I say that because they apply it to straw hats too. I do know that a while back a 100X Stetson could run you $500. When I was showing horses regularly & buying westerns, if I saw a 10X for under $150 I thought that was a good deal. When Stetson throws X's on beaver & cashmere plus beaver & mink blends, I really don't know what they are going for except to justify a high price...JMHO

Not very helpful I know. Basically the more Xs the higher the price. There are a few details sprinkled about, but beyond the vague claims on the Stetson website, I don't think we know much about the modern Stetson system. Suitedcowboy, might know a little more. Maybe he can help out.

I like it Neo! Is that the medium "fullness"? I know they offer three options, can't recall what they call them.

Actually, I think they offer four: Medium, Deep, Full, and Extra Full.

I decided to play it safe and got the Full. If it looks like a medium, it's just because I have a big head :D.

Resistol Loafer, arrived today, this lid has character I'm debating if I should send it off for cleaning or try a can of Scout cleaner. The ribbon has a couple of holes from a pin, I could try to iron it or maybe have a similar ribbon made. The ribbon looks like it's missing a center piece. Was this ribbon style common in the 50's?
