Cervo Bantam Gold. No label inside the hat, so unsure of the colour and unsure about the size. Sold to me as a size 57, but it's closer to a size 59 or 60. Overwelt brim at 6,5cm and the crown at 10,5cm at the center dent. There was a folded newspaper inside the sweatband dated 1973. Could well be, but could also have been added later. What stands out on this one is the ribbon treatment. The felt continues up until the top of the narrow ribbon. No stitches to be seen on the outside from the sweatband. The narrow ribbon goes all the way round without a seam (at least I couldn't find it). Very nicely done. From the ribbon to the rest of the crown it looks stepped, almost as if the hat was made in two parts, which it isn't. Very cool design and superb execution. Weighs 120 grams.

A lottery hat I decided to go for last week. I'd say it's a winner.
Ryn'h (probably pronounced "rinnash") woolfelt fedora in grey heather. Size 58 with the raw edge brim at 5,5cm and the crown at 10 cm at the center dent. Likely thirties or maybe early forties. Weighs 134 grams, which isn't too heavy for a woolfelt hat. The felt is quite thin as well. The moth certainly had a go at it, but it doesn't show all that much on the heather felt. It has lost its crown patch along the way. Nice woolfelt survivor. More in the French hats thread.

Think I’ve finally found my silverbelly OR after a few years of trying and probably 5 or 6 catch and releases.

This is a Royal DeLuxe—clean but not so clean I feel like I need to baby it. Any help on date? Forties or Fifties? Very nice felt, softer than the Royal Stetsons I’ve owned and not as thick as the 3Xs.

Brim is slightly wonky but hopefully will come around with steam. Was a very easy job to convert it from the cattleman’s crease with which it arrived. The felt takes steam beautifully.

Enjoy the weekend!

David

Such a fantastic ribbon treatment. It’s unlike anything I’ve seen before.

Stetson Royal in a great green-blue heather felt. It’s very soft and molds at that lightest touch. Self-felt hatband with a loop “bow.” 2 ½” brim with decorative edge stitching. Size is 7 ⅛ or 57cm. No tags hiding behind the sweatband.

Derby Antilope. Unsurprisingly, it has a wonderfully soft Antelope/suede finish. 2 ⅜” bound brim and the open crown is approximately 5 ¼ inches. The felt is mid weight and could use some steam to hold its shape. The bow is very nice…might have to copy the design. Nothing behind the sweatband other than the size sticker: 56cm or 7 US.

Nice color combo and ribbon design. I remember seeing this one.. interesting brand name Derby. And neat liner.

Got 4 new caps. Nice ones too. I only had 1 flat cap, and it always fit kinda funny. Tight & shallow, and too round. Made in Bangladesh or something. I mostly wear ball caps, but I want something that will keep my head warm in the winter. The first (or last depending on the order of pictures) is a Boston Scally Co "The Hound". It's well made, fits nice and is cooler than the other three. It's made in China and so I feel the price is a little hefty for what you get (a cool logo inside the lining). It's 70% polyester and 30% wool. The other three are made in Ireland by Mucros Weavers. They fit even better (deeper on the head) and are of course 100% wool and will be nice and warm. High quality and stunning colors! Shipping was fast to the U.S.

Birthday present to myself this year—a new Gannon in Natural. Absolutely perfect, every detail is a pleasure to consider. Inspired by the Strat clone I posted the other day, I opted for a 2 3/8 brim. Even if the vent holes are more decorative than functional, I love them!

Cheers,

David

Very nice looking hat, Brent. Fairly certain it's German made, based on the Antilope name and especially that type of size tag. I think the Gubener makers used those.

Happy Un-Boxing Day (no affiliation with Canada or other countries of the Kingdom who celebrate a day of packing hats). As arrived ...

Early 1950s Stetson Stratoliner. A bit rough around the edges and curled from being in too small a shipping box. There is some sort of rust rash happening on the ribbon. A nice note arrived with it -- glad to hear that the hat had a job.
