I've frozen several hats and noticed no damage. I've also seen notices posted by hat shops asking that any hats sent in for repair be frozen for two or three days before shipping.

Thank you for assuring me it's ok to to freeze sweatbands given that some hat shops ask their customers to do so. Also I hope my question was not inappropriate to your posting.

These are all new in the last month! I was saving up for a new fly rod, but ended up taking a different path. I've never worn a Fedora before, but once I tried on the Stratoliner, I knew it was what I've been wanting.

I’ve wanted a Knox Vagabond for a long time. This one came with a small worm hole above the ribbon and a divot on the front of the brim that I was able to soften with a felt sponge. Just a classic lightweight hat similar to Playboy or Cross Country.

I’ve wanted a Knox Vagabond for a long time. This one came with a small worm hole above the ribbon and a divot on the front of the brim that I was able to soften with a felt sponge. Just a classic lightweight hat similar to Playboy or Cross Country.

eBay is the main source but good hats are as rare as hens teeth. I understand from @deadlyhandsome and others that in large sizes it is even harder and so many of us also end up commissioning handmade hats from Michael Gannon and others to fill the void. Good luck!

While eBay is the go-to, there are several other auction sites out there selling vintage items. The best deals are to be had locally, however. Check antique malls, vintage shops, thrift shops, and estate sales.

Also, there is Etsy, Facebook Marketplace, and a few others. Should keep you busy for awhile, LOL.

I've had success with Poshmark.com, too. I'm 7 3/8, and I feel like that's the cusp of getting too large to be common for old hats, but I'm also more interested in the trilbys and they were popular in the sixties and seventies, just when people were abandoning hats altogether, so there are quite a few still being discovered in "grandpa's closet" that were put away practically new. Going further back to the forties for the wider brims I'm afraid the truly "big" sizes become super rare because folks was just smaller back then. Happy hunting!

Stefan, I haven't for a long while. I usually focus on JHS or P. & C. Habig Wien but this one was more impulse.

Jack, Super! I believe P. & C. Habig Wien stop production in the late 1980s. What is interesting is the Auftrags - Datum is missing the year "31. 10. .?". Could "88" in Auftrags - Nr. be the year?

I freeze every new acquisition for a couple of days. I’ve never had a problem with the sweatbands. I have two in the deep freeze now.

Stetson Playboy. I was excited to get this one. The color rendering is off; it’s a very light grey with a bluish tint, and the ribbon is a shiny, silvery grey. I’ll try to get a better representation to post in the Playboys on Parade thread.

The liner is embroidered and flawless. Stars on the logo. The brim has the single row of decorative stitching, so I’m thinking maybe late ‘30s or late 40’s. This is the softest, lightest felt I have ever handled.

Rockel "Wildleder", 58 cm possibly later 1960s. Great looking Chamois finish Grey Felt that has a very soft hand. Also a really sharp looking slightly offset Light Gray Bow and Brim Binding.

Joe, Thank you! I agree. It's later but the color contrast and finished drew my attention. Brent also saw it and kindly notified me. At first the seller wouldn't ship to America but changed their mind.
