The latest Topper. Battersby ca. WWI.

15cm crown height, 5cm brim.

Grosgrain ribbon and bow. Unusual for a Top Hat.

Probably made in Battersby's French factory post 1907

Sold in this fur makers shop in Denmark's 3rd largest town, Odense.

Fits nicely after a warm up in the oven:

Had some hats shipped to my daughter and picked them up today. I was commenting to my wife about how nice this Stetson Vita-Felt was. She tried it on, it fit perfectly and she likes it. So much for any profit on that one, but if I can get her to wear more than the same three hats, I'm good with it. It's from somewhere in the 1940 - 1953 range (single celled red/white factory sticker) and has a "Mode Edge". Missing the ribbon (?). I'll get more/better pics when I get home.

Then she tried on the hat that belonged to a member of the Cowgirl Hall of Fame (1977 inductee) ... and stole that one too! Note the interesting use of the rondel and embroidered liner with a 4X designation. That might be worthy of inclusion in Max's "The hard-to-find or unusual Hat Circle".

I told my wife I should get her this T-shirt to wear with it:

In reply she just quoted a line often heard in the TV show "Yellowstone" ... "F***in' barrel racers".

Awesome. I’m glad she found some gems to her liking.

I just pulled the Stetson Temple I just got off Ebay from the freezer this evening and I'm quite pleased. It is an Imperial Temple, I can't find much about the Imperial vs Sovereign Stetsons, but the felt has a nice feel to it, not too stiff, not too floppy, and I like the sage color. A few little marks from storage but otherwise in good shape. Had a feather in it but was a little rough and I didn't care for it. It came in a mismatched box and the seller didn't know what it was.

This was a pleasant surprise. It’s a mid to dark gray felt with a 2 1/4” wide black ribbon. The brim has a nice felted/Cavanagh edge. The felt is really very nice. It surprised me. The sweatband doesn’t have any markings and the liner states: “Designed and Personally Supervised by Appleby of New York”
There appears to be a generic size label under the felt that makes me think it was reblocked. The liner is sewn in.
It also has what appears to be a standard Hat Corporation of America label.
2” brim and 5 3/8” open crown.

Always good to be pleasantly surprised! I'm also glad to hear about the quality as I have one coming as well.

This Dobbs was a disappointment. Seller insisted they looked and there wasn’t a label behind the sweatband. Measurements of the head opening were given as 9 inches by 6 inches. I knew that wasn’t right, but I thought it would be in the ballpark…nope. 2 1/4” brim with an overwelt edge. The felt is substantial and is definitely a winter weight.

I have received approval to return it for a refund, and plan to do so. If anyone here wants it before it goes back it’s $46 plus actual shipping ($12 or less in the contiguous US).
