A brace of black Bari X religious market Borsalinos in 7 3/8. The brims are a generous 3 7/8” and the open crown is six inches. I’ll sell one hat and send the other to be made into a replica of a vintage Stetson I’ve admired. Even if it doesn’t replicate the look I’m sure it will make a fine hat (I have at least three of these conversions).

Looks fantastic. Looks like the brim binding matches the bottom part of the two tone ribbon.

Sadly, some of the provenance of this Resistol Pace-Setter got lost during its refurb.




Luckily, the liner with the stylized heart shaped like 0 in Resistol survived.



I'm still playing around with the overall shape and bash, but I'm leaning more for this 1940s look as befits the ca. age of the hat.

J. Hückel´s Söhne "Omega", French Point 5 1/2, possibly late 1920s early 1930s. I only know of one other JHS "Omega" Velour (also made for the French Market) on FL that belongs to Robert (RLK) and was found in 2013. The medium weight light absorbing black Velour is of very high quality with high gloss and very pliable so easily dry creases. It's non Liner type with Crown patch. The Band is wide with an interesting Bow design. The Sweatband has the JHS Hanging Cord at the rear. The Paper Label is JHS Post WWI Soft Felt Type 1. A big thank you to Stefan for letting me know about this fantastic Velour, securing the sale and sending it my way.

Bob, Great find. The Sweatband cushioning is typical of European Straw Boater Hats (see below). Is there a paper label?

The measures of the "magic blue" are: the brims are 5 cm. the ribbon with a very nice bow is 4 high and the open crown is 13cm.

Smithbilt. The felt is quite dense and stiff. Needs a clean, too.

Brim is 9.5cm and crown height 13cm. It's a big one.

I’ll get a full refund, including shipping and taxes, but it’s a shame to see even a more recent hat end it’s days like this. Who crams a damp hat into a plastic bag then forces it into a shoe box before shipping across country?


UPDATE:
The seller gave an immediate refund. She said it had a slight smell so she washed it before shipping it. What can you do?

I have had a few hats come to me in a an envelope, but never one in a shape like this! That's brutal.

Mid-1930s (?) Knox. Size 7-1/8 . 2" raw-edge brim and 5-3/4" open crown. Frayed ribbon. This one was a bit of a disappointment as the auction only had two exterior photos and one close image of the store name embossing. I asked for more info and photos (asking about a size tag or factory sticker and any other marking on the sweat band or interior felt). A response that just said there were not any other marking is all I got back -- no disclosure about the unreeded sweat band that was hanging by a thread. I got it cheap enough, but sure wish it was in better shape for a future owner. No significant mothing anyway.

Okay, so it's not the sort of thing we usually see around here, but it's nicer than I was expecting:

Bailey Hats "Billy" in black. Toyo braid (55% Polyester, 45% paper straw), 4-1/2" crown height, 1-5/8" brim width. This being what most would consider to be a "straw" hat, I expected it to be more rigid than it is but it's actually rather soft and conforms to my head easily. The stingy brim doesn't seem to offer a lot in the way of protection from the sun, but this hat is so comfortable that it just might become my favorite...for a little while, anyway.

If it does the trick, Al, why not? Looks good on you.

Kevin McAndrew "Pakable". Size 7-1/4. Heathered fur felt with a 1-7/8" brim and 4-3/4" crown. Being "Pakable" it is very malleable -- almost creases too easily as any touch will have an effect. Not sure where to date this one. Fagman, Inc. (and Jack Fagman) show up "out there" from 1928 to 1956. There are a couple of trademarks from 1956 for Fagman, Inc. so I assume that they go on for a few years anyway. I am finding that Byer-Rolnick (the maker) did trademark "Pakable" in 1958 and "Kevin McAndrew" in 1961. So ... early '60s? (Edit: "Kevin McAndrew" was first used in '49, so ... being your typical eBay seller ... I will call this one late 1950s).

Not so sure about the feather ribbon, but the felt looks awfully good.

Adam Majestic from Brent via a refurb from Robert at Wolfbrae.

Robert did a wonderful clean-up job plus a nice soft sweatband refit due to the original being dry as toast.

Will play around with this one, but right now it looks good brim up.

Classic look and I've yet to encounter a Resistol that didn't deliver on quality.

Yes, the classic has the best proportions, but i like all 3. All very light weight.
