thanks Brent. I do agree. I very rarely wear my all black homburg. But this was different. Enjoyed wearing it today. If I steam a front pinch or I even played with some side dents.. it might get some regular wear.

Saving hats is sometimes a question of affection or curiosity.
What you see today belongs to the second category.

Panizza For Ever size 60cm and 7 1/2 in US.

The size is perfect so it's big for my head, at least in this case.

I have never seen a Panizza marked "For Ever", perhaps one passed through my hands some time ago.

This one had all the characteristics to get back on its feet and have new life.
Felt is a mixed whose name has disappeared from the paper label.

Compared to many Panizza that I have or have had it is a very high-end hat, you can see it in the finishes and quality of the components.
It was curated by Fleur to be worn again, by a twist of fate not for me.

The measures of this rarity: the brims edged in contrast with the color of the felt are at 6.5 centimeters. the black ribbon is 4 centimeters high and the height of the crown at its lowest point is 11 centimeters.
Here is a hat that shows a brand and the location where it was made in great evidence.

Panizza For ever

Near Ghiffa, exactly 7 kilometers to the south, on the shores of Lake Maggiore, the "Albertini" was founded in 1817, probably the oldest Italian hat factory in modern times.

Albertini size 57cm and 7 1/8 in US.

All the indications on the sweatband and on the paper label have been lost due to poor conservation, only the felt and the lining have arrived intact to the present day.

The felt is a deep brown color with a slightly contrasting band and finished with a short and shiny fur

The sweatband was replaced by by Fleur to be worn again.

The measurements of this excellent hat: the raw brims are at 5.5 cm. the ribbon is 3.2cm high and the crown height at its lowest point is 10.5cm.

This hat has never been worn and has arrived in excellent condition until now to my delight as a collector.

I believe this is a Magill. The open crown is 5 1/4 inches with a lot of taper and the raw edge brim is 2 1/4 inches. The beaver felt is nice, but vintage hats are much thinner and more malleable. The ribbon is petersham, but that aside it has a cheap look to it. The sweatband printing also looks low-end, but the leather is substantial, soft, and supple.

Crofut & Knapp gray homburg in size 7.

This hat needed a home and no one else was even looking at it. I normally don’t buy hats this small, but this just needed to come home with me.

Wonderful thin felt that is easily dry creased and the sweatband is also thin and super supple. Only wish it was in my size.

Resistol open weave western in 7 5/8. Great airy hat with a 4” brim and a crown that is a tall 5 3/4” at the dip and about 6 1/2” at the high point.

This general type of hat a personal favorite for our long summers in central California. These are much more hard-wearing than Panama hats.

Vanzina “Farmer” with 6” open crown and a brim width of 4” before the curl. Size is 57cm. There is one spot on the underside of the brim that doesn’t go through to the top. I hope it comes out, but even if it doesn’t I’ll wear it. There isn’t any preserving the hat in its original condition, but the felt is a fantastic western weight that reminds me of pre-War Stetson No. 1 Quality felt. It will be off to a hatter soon for new binding, a new ribbon, sized up, and a new sweatband.

This Barbisio arrived, in worse conditions, together with the Panizza "For ever".
For a reason of love for the brand of Sagliano I thought of restoring it even if the task for the hatter was difficult.

The Barbisio had been attacked in two places by moths.

Barbisio Qualità Extra size 60 centimeters, or 7 1/2 in the USA.

The color of the felt is "Egeo - Aegean" like the sea.
The grey background color is mixed with a deep and metallic blue, a color hardly seen in my experience in Barbisio felts.

The restoration work has minimized the passage of moths, but has not canceled them.

These are the measures of such great beauty: the brims edged by a very thin ribbon in the same color as the felt measure 6 cm. the ribbon in perfect color with the felt is 2.5 cm and the crown at its lowest point is at 10.5.

I have a regret because the tone on tone colors and finish are among my favorites, this is also a full size and is wide for my head

Not a fancy or flashy hat, but for me it has that "I know it when I see it" quality. If it were mine I would probably focus on minimizing or eliminating (if possible) the stains and discoloration and not even think about the moth damage. It's even my size for a change. Simple, but beautiful to my eyes.

We introduce a Borsalino that has an unknown peculiarity in many hats of the house in Alessandria: its size is full, which is strange in the sizes of the Borsalino

Borsalino Qualità Suprema size 6 1/2 or 60 and 7 1/2 in the US.

The color of the felt is "Lupo - Wolf" one of the most difficult to make true in photography

Medium felt finished with a tone-on-tone belt and a beautiful effect for global colors

Unlined and light weight is a hat from the seventies
sold in Italy with a soft felt, rare to find in the Qualità Suprema.

For me it is a great compliment when a hat is not flashy or extravagant, when it speaks a simple language and is recognizable without being too bold. Barbisio has always done, or almost, this with its production. The felt is not discolored or stained, but the moth holes were too noticeable, so the "repair" was carried out. Honestly it's much better now ...and it remains so elegant

My much anticipated Stetson Premier Stratoliner arrived today. Been looking forward to this ever since I accepted the silverbelly w/ brown ribbon wasn't going to happen, haha. Being in Oregon the sage green I think will work better as an every day hat anyways!
First time having an open crown hat, was fun shaping it and haven't steamed it so I can continue trying different things until I find something I like (or may just not steam it in general).

I think the open crown might be a bit much hat for my taste, heh.
