My 20-21 WPI Montecristi Fino from Brent Black has arrived. I ordered the Classic Fedora style with a 1-1/16" Havana Brown band. I also opted for a 2-1/2" brim. Everything seems to be perfect.

DSC_0550.JPG

The blocking job is miles ahead of the condition that my last Montecristi Fino arrived in. The pin is a nice addition. The feather is mine.

DSC_0553.JPG

The brim is soft, but snaps easily with gravity. The brim curl from the front profile is a bit uneven (the left side curls a bit higher than the left).

DSC_0556.JPG

The rear brim curl is a bit uneven as well, but is as expected from a hand-blocked hat.

I opted for the dark brown leather sweatband to match the hatband. In addition, the underside of the hat is in perfect condition.

Here's a picture of the underside of the brim from the Brent Black panama (left) and my Montecristi Fino from Panamahatcollection.com (right). As you can see, the right panama has some unnatural discoloration from my stiffening it multiple times. I'm glad to not see this on the Brent Black panama.

Overall, I am pleased with my Brent Black panama. I don't think I would ever need to reshape the brim, which was a headache on my previous Montecristi. I guess proper blocking does do the trick.

A size 7 you say. Well, what do you know?;)

Could you post a close-up of the brim binding, Bob? I thought I saw a row of stitches next to the brim ribbon, which had me thinking it might be European. I was wrong about that, but did I at least see the stitches right?

This one came in a few days ago.
I'll call it Londres, because there's no brand name on it. It says London Hat Manufactory on the crown patch, which tells me it's certainly not English made. The size tag point towards a French manufacturer and it came from France, so Londres it is.
Woolfelt fedora in light grey with the brim at 7cm and the crown at 10,5cm at the center dent. The sweatband is made of a silky material, unusual and quite comfortable. It may be a woolfelt (or maybe a mix) as it has a certain heather look to it, but it is one of the finest I've seen, with a great hand to the felt.

Thought you might go for that one. I find these made under license Dobbs hat on occasion in the vintage shops. Well made hats, but usually very much sixties and seventies styled. The stitching is certainly not original.

I already deleted the stitching haha except the one on the bow.

Another new one. Chisnall, sold to me as a size 62, but I already knew that would be its size. Turned out to be a size 58 (most here guessed it would be a 59). So, Chisnall Elite homburg, with the brim at 5,6cm and the crown at 10,5 cm at the center dent. Likely made by Wegener through wholesellers W&G Schuchart, whose label is inside the hat.

The shape, felt, finishing all point towards an early sixties hat. I'd say 1963, but late 1963.;)

This hat was listed as a "Willoughby haters t54". I'm not a Willoughby hater; au contraire, and from sellers' pics the 7 1/8 size tag could be seen. I'll have that, thank you.
So, Willoughby homburg in a size 58 (fits more like a 57 though) in a nice rich brown colour called Pacha. Brim at 6cm and the crown at 10,5cm at the center dent. Stitches still in the ribbon. It had a cellophane covering of the liner originally (a sliver of which can be seen on the liner pic). I'm going with later forties to mid-fifties for this one. Not a lightweight homburg though: weighs 155 grams. Felt and finishing are fantastic.

Made a trip to Haarlem yesterday to one of the vintage shops over there. It paid off, sort of. I found this one.
Vezzani Vulpes velour hat in black. Size 55 with the double stitched overwelt brim at 5,5cm and the crown at 10cm at the center dent. The quality is called "talpa" (meaning mole) which is a more common name for more short haired velour hats.
It fit me close enough and I haven't seen a hat by this maker before.
Interesting is that the velour on this one has been made with a clockwise nap.
The ribbon that can be seen on these pics is not original and is the cause of the stitches that can be seen around the sweatband. I removed it after I took the pics. Still thinking about which new one to put on. Vezzani was, as far as I can gather, a maker from the Monza, an area was mostly known for its woolfelt hats. Weighs 109 grams; lightweight for a velour.
