Nice looking Resistol, AFI. I have one of those with the self conforming sweat. It makes for a very comfortable lid.

Another gamble. Seller said measured 20-1/2", its really 22-1/8". I'm trying to decide resize or resell.

Wegener Colonel, 1966

Today my Wegener Colonel arrived in the post. It's a jet-black 6 7/8. Crown is aprox. 4 1/2" tall (creased), brim measures 2". Wegener was so kind to provide me with the exact date of manufacture, which was May 11, 1966. Pretty late, yet still three years and two days before my birth... :D

I really like the maroon-colored liner. But then, I like the whole hat! :D

My Akubra Balmoral, as supplied by Hatsdirect. Next week I will try and fit a new hatband, as the leather one is wholly inappropiate.
Much as I like it, I am quite a bit p****d because Hatsdirect didnt tell in their product description that this size 62 does not come with a leather sweatband, but a cloth one.
Alas, the risks of mail order:rolleyes:
P.S.: Has anyone a source for separate leather sweatbands, please?

Update, 29.6.: I asked them whether they can supply me with a leather sweatband which I would sew in myself and they couldnt. But recommended to buy some Nappa and cut one myself, thats what they are doing when replacing sweatbands.
As if its so easy to get hold of one long strap of good leather nowadays without a lot of hassle and expanse. It wouldnt have killed them to pop one in an envelope.
Never, never again.

Kreissaege, get in touch with Jim at JW Hats. www.jwhats.com I have spoken with him at length, and he will certainly accommodate you, even if it's only one sweatband. Also, he is a good source for ribbon.

Found a hat today in an antique store. Beautiful '40s-'50s panama. Super tight weave, no cracking to the straw at the pinch.

To make it "more salable", some dunce had epoxied the whole thing, put a wooden insert in the back and drilled a hole through the top to make it into a bird house.

Two more new ones, both found today. It's been a thin ribbon and derby kind of week. :p

My first "fuzzy"! Anyone heard of this company or want to try to date it?
5" crown bashed, 2 3/8" brim.

Another old Stetson derby. Has vents in the top of the crown as well as the rivets on the sides. Age?

Nice hats!

This is what I could find on Palco. Not much to go by.

The derby's an old one. '20s or earlier, for sure. Love the grommets in the side of the crown. Very sporting.

Those are some very interesting finds T-21. Both for their history and for their condition; especially the derby.

Seems the guy went to extremes to get a feather in his fedora.

1960s Cambridge, Antilope Finish

This one just arrived. Even though the brand is called Cambridge, I take this to be a German hat judging by the label. A 6 7/8 in dark charcoal grey, the crown is 4 3/4" tall (creased) while the brim 1 3/4" wide, so this lid obviously qualifies as a stingy. The felt is very light and wonderfully soft to the touch, almost of a velour-like quality. This finish is called Antilope. Scored for 4.16 €.

I was a little shocked at first, because it arrived in an incredibly flat package, and so the hat looked like a granite pancake from the stoneage at first glance. Oh, and there was lot of dust, too. Good thing that the felt is so soft...
